Here is a snaphot, on a 1366x768 monitor, traditional icons-on-desktop:

I just tested updating from 3.4.5, on my Lenovo Ideacentre PC.

As this is my main development workhorse, I usually have lots of stuff that I want to clean out before updating. So, I choose menu "Shutdown -> Rectify -> Reboot, with rollback". I then choose "Rollback to pristine first-boot", which brings up a window:

erase-exceptions.png
erase-exceptions.png (41.36 KiB) Viewed 1543 times

...I tick all the checkboxes, then click "OK"

This will delete any installed packages, so you are starting with a clean slate; however, it is important to know that everything under /files is not erased -- that has your permanent personal files.

I rebooted, then clicked "update" on the desktop, update succeeded, with a couple small UI glitches...

1. The background image is wrong. Easy to fix: menu "Desktop -> Qwallpaper" and choose 'default.jpg'

2. "sfsget" icon on desktop is wrong. Right-click on the icon, "File sfsget -> Set icon...", then drag /usr/local/X11/pixmaps/sfs48.png and drop.

I flipped over to the icon-free desktop (using "Desktop -> JWMdesk -> Options", and got the same two UI glitches.

3. Fixing the wrong "sfsget" icon in the tray is a different procedure. Edit /root/.jwmrc-tray, on the "sfsget" line, change "pet48.png" to "sfs48.png", save, exit. Then in a terminal, run "jwm -restart".

Voila, desktop now correct.

I have uploaded some 1920x1080 snapshots:

First, thanks for the continuing improvements.

My observations so far:
Libre Office has some interface issues, see attachment 1.
Text in toolbar gets only displayed when mouse pointer is over it.
Screenshot only displays a small section, there are more of it.

libre-office-01.png

Another one are the icons on the sidebar, again only get a clue if mouse
pointer is over it. GTK icons missing?

libre-office-02.png

Next observation was, if I change the background image and then change to jwm
controlled desktop, the background defaults back to the original. I assume it has to
do with different mechanisms to control the background. The same of course if I
switch the other way around (jwm > rox).

My last one so far. I noticed if I use a rox controlled desktop, jwm-desk-manager
does not give me the option to switch to an icon free desktop with only drives showing
anymore. Of course I can opt for the custom setup, but this requires me to have at least
the web-browser icon showing? Just curious why this changed to be that way.
I usually went with this option, off course now I can switch to jwm-session. Just got
attached to be able to see the drive status at a quick glance. Like I said just curious.
I am defenately happy you got away from the all black default theme, thanks.

At first I thought, that is not an issue, then realised, yes, there are gaps, seem to be missing icons. Will check that out.

Yes, you will have to set the wallpaper independently after switching to jwm-mode.

I'm not aware that JWMDesk used to offer that. Roger (radky) probably removed that feature for EasyOS, since Easy has its own icon-free-desktop feature.

See screenshot below, this is taken from V3.3

@radky, would it be possible to reimplement this feature, without you
having to invest a lot of time on it? Or least give the option to have
a custom setup without having to include the browser icon?

It's not that I don't like the icon-free jwm version, this is actually quite nice,
but I also like the option to be able to have a quick look at the drive status. So,
the main reason for me asking for this are the drive icons. I am
still a little bit torn in between the two versions (rox vs. jwm).

Thanks

I found that "Desktop icons setup" is broken.

It is different from the above photo. Has a radiobutton for traditional Puppy icon layout, another radiobutton for standard EasyOS layout, plus a couple other radiobuttons.

I found that flipping over to Puppy layout, then back to EasyOS layout, icons were broken. Fixed:

Misaligned, thanks for your question.

JWMdesk provides many desktop options for legacy and modern releases of Puppy Linux and EasyOS, but some of those options are disabled (removed from the GUI) if not supported by the current distro.

For example, in recent iterations of EasyOS, code in /root/.xinitrc overwrites the current PuppyPin (Rox desk icons) if 'defaultbrowser' is not present in /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin.

Specifically, EasyOS manages the Rox pinboard uniquely and currently does not support a pinboard if there is no 'defaultbrowser' icon (for example: the 'Bare' and 'Trash icon only' PuppyPin options of JWMdesk). Consequently, JWMdesk disables (removes) these non-functional pinboard options in EasyOS, but they are supported and available in Puppy Linux.

@radky
Thanks for your reply.
Unless I somehow change that requirement for 'defaultbrowser', I suppose that it would be possible for JWMDesk to offer a "browser icon only" choice.
But, would anyone want that option?

Perhaps a sneaky way to implement no icons desktop, or trash only, would be to have:

<!-- <icon x="96" y="32" label="www">/usr/local/bin/defaultbrowser</icon> -->

...I haven't checked whether rox can handle comment tags.

Just looking at that code in /root/.xinitrc... that code was inserted in 2016.
I seem to recall, it was in response to someone having a totally screwed up PuppyPin, the "defaultbrowser" line must have been missing. So it loads a backup PuppyPin.

Good morning @Maybe.

If the left hand side of your 'RU' libre office writer looks like this

IconsAreMissing.png

you will need to install Barry's icons add up pet file from here:
https://distro.ibiblio.org/easyos/noarc ... 220420.pet

You can read about it on Barry's blog at:
https://bkhome.org/news/202204/libreoff ... icons.html

After adding the pet file your screen will look like this

@radky , thanks for your reply and explanation. Like I mentioned before, it was possible in V3.3 and I don't know right now up to which version this option was available. Yes, there was still some code in the .xinitrc that ensured that the container icons still show up. So, some manual intervention was required to get to the point, that only the drive icons were visible. I am not quite sure if understand the reason for the need of having at least the browser icon showing up now?

But, no big deal , and thanks for reworking the jwm-desk app.

@ BarryK, one more thing I wanted to mention, it's on my mind for a while, but I keep forgetting to mention it. More a suggestion, what if the container apps would have their own menu section, instead of spreading them out in different categories? They are nicely grouped on the panel in the jwm version, but I may get ahead of the game, since you are already in the process of reordering the menu.

I can write Easy to a USB drive with your dd app, can do the blkid, initrd thing for boot specs but cant boot.

starting vmlinuz
using load options
'rw' initrd=\initrd

Thats as far as I get. Stupid me, I changed the \ to / and expected initrd to work!!!
Want to see if I can get Mate desktop to work in Easy. Mate has the best goodies in the tray.
