Won't do that again! (or - maybe - how to kill X from the kbd)
Hello all and woof!
Correction: 2 posts up, @bigpup suggested I pressed only the ctrl+alt+backspace keys (and somehow not the shift key). Testing this - I believe he is correct. Anyway the keys strokes he mentioned above are a great way to kill Xwin and get back to the terminal command line. Just disregard what I wrote below.
I subscribe to a mail service called Fastmail.
When composing an e-mail three buttons across the top of the screen allow me to <send>, or <save>, or <discard>.
Until now I used a mouse for these functions, but a few moments ago I decided to use the keyboard to discard a poorly written e-mail.
With the mouse-pointer over <discard> I saw the short-cut key combination was ctrl+alt+shift+backspace.
Being a clever puppian, I thought: I can do that, I can, I can!
I ran outside, bit the postman on the leg and pressed ctrl+alt+shift+backspace
I found myself ... looking at a terminal screen.
I thought: <wtf *%#!@> I won't do that again!
The Puppy Linux X-window had shut down. Typing reboot (of course) re-started the OS and I suspect this is a neat way to return to the terminal in those rare instances when Puppy blows up. It's a long time since Puppy "blew up" but it can happen.
cobaka.
My setup: PC Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
Product Name: Z68X-UD3-B3
OS: A very faithful uPupBB32. Yes, I'm running a 32 bit OS on this 64 bit machine, and it runs reliably.
Sometimes I leave Puppy running for 1/2/3 weeks without shutting down.
uPupBB32 is a nice OS. I love it!
Memory: 8GiBytes (but I don't need that much memory).
