xdg-utils

by darry19662018
Certain applications like for example xine when they are installed will try to install xdg-utils which mucks up the system jwm tray.

I have deleted the offending files inside this package and made it back into a .pet as a dummy .pet which makes archpup think it has this installed. Tested installing xine after installing the dummy .pet and this worked. Remove .gz to install PPM works fine afterwards.
xdg-utils-1.1.3+19.pet.gz
(24.09 KiB) Downloaded 106 times
Only this Pupplet is affected.

I am off and on testing the 32b ArchPup on my i5 based Fujitsu S761 laptop. Boots cleanly, has super low resource use, I have added

Code: Select all

cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/max_brightness > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
to rc.local to bring up this intel based lappie at full screen brightness, set up the usual SNS wireless connection, added pcmanfm 1.31 from the repo, set up trays etc. No more than my usual scuffles with jwm. The light browser works OOTB but I have as yet to get any chromium based browser to work yet. The current SlimJet fails with AwSnaps, as it does in upupFF (I'm giving upupGG a bye as FF IIRC has longer support). No surprise there. Peebees chromium_86.0.4240.75_pepper_32.0.0.433_lx_spot.sfs which works in upupFF fails here with certificate issues. I haven't worked that out yet. Other than that, it seems pretty stable for an RC2. Searching, the cert issue is very common but I haven't found the key yet. Image
Cheers,

Hi @Marv

ca-certificates is missing from the build.... :?

could you try installing:
https://mirror.archlinux32.org/pentium4 ... kg.tar.zst

I will add to next build anyway.

Thanks

Not there yet but not a big deal. I installed https://mirror.archlinux32.org/pentium4 ... kg.tar.zst and no change.. it looks more like build info than content. I have also copied the certs from FF where the chromium works, mirroring exactly the structure there, also no change. I'm still picking away at the desktop and jwm on the archpup off and on. It doesn't want to preserve pinboard settings through a save reboot cycle for me. Using a custom pinboard and forcing a switch to that at the end of rc.local works for now. Haven't quite gotten my puppy trash integrated to pcmfm yet as I did in artful through DD but that's just fooling around. Long ago and far away when I worked a bit on an Arch deriv. getting the snapmerge to work, most of the problems I had were due to the slightly different dir structure in arch. As dailys for me, the two LxPups always always just work so I can play with a couple of other pups.

Cheers,

Update: Posting from chromium_86.0.4240.75_pepper_32.0.0.433_lx_spot.sfs :thumbup2: :thumbup2: I installed the certs per the above and still no chromium. Running it from terminal libnssckbi.so was missing. So far as I can tell Arch uses P11kit instead but chromium wants libnssckbi.so. Light uses it also but it is carried in /usr/local/lib/light. Copied it from there to usr/lib and chromium is working correctly. My shared profile and search come up and all sites I've tried work. Needs a little tidying up but I'm happy. Got my pcmanfm-puppy trash sorted too. It just needed to be added to /opt/lxpup/lx-mimeapps.list since I added it after I had installed lx-rightclicks from pet. Ohya, added galculator from repo. Getting pretty usable.

Even better: SlimJet 27.0.7.0 run-as-spot now runs! Posting from it now.

gnumeric in ArchPup 32 Bit

Posted: Sun Oct 25, 2020 1:11 am
by Marv

Continuing to test this in the Fujitsu S761. Now using Slimjet 28.0.1.0, based on Chromium 85.0.4183.69. Some awsnaps as usual (now) with chromium but reloading the page generally works. Peebees chromium_86.0.4240.111_pepper_32.0.0.445_lx_spot.sfs is also running well in this archpup with added certs and the added libnssckbi.so.

I ran into an issue with gnumeric. It wouldn't open a spreadsheet just updated and checked in LxPupSc. gnumeric runs but the spreadsheet as opened is sparsely populated and pretty badly mangled. I'll attach the run-from-terminal files for a good run in LxPupSc and the failed run in ArchPup32. Both false gzs. Back in lxpupsc for now, haven't chased it at all.

Cheers,

Update: Did a remaster (first in a long time, all tools worked well). Pulled gnumeric and abiword from the build and added pcmanfm and my associated work and symlinks to the main SFS. LibreOffice-5.3.7_en-US_xz loads from SFS and does what is needed for my simple spreadsheets and documents. Now, about those AwSnaps gurgle

I use the AUR package build recipes as a guide of the required dependencies and compile the package then manually.

by icake

I have created 3 half-Chinese language pets each for arch64 20.05.02 and arch32 20.05.02:
fcitx Chinese input platform:
arch64 20.05.02:fcitx64_4.2.7-en-zh-raring-14.0.6.pet (14 mb)
arch32 20.05.02: fcitx_4.2.7-en-zh-raring-14.3.6.pet (16 mb)

(ibus cannot run in arch64 20.05.02 and arch32 20.05.02)

scim Chinese input platform:
arch64 20.05.02:scim64_1.4.14-en-zh-raring-14.0.6.pet (13 mb)
arch32 20.05.02: scim_1.4.14-en-zh-raring-14.3.6.pet (14 mb)

Hi peebee, just tried the Arch32Pup-20.05+3, it will not >save< the puppy theme properly after I change it to "original pup" using the Puppy Theme Manager.
Also it did not save the changed background wallpaper (I had changed it to black) The changed theme gave me a broken desktop upon reboot.

The original Arch32Pup-20.05 saves the theme and background properly.
--
Just tried a couple more themes.
"431" did same as "original pup"
"xfwm touch" seems to save ok
Background wallpaper changes never saves on any of them.

Hi @perdido.
You are right - I also see this.
Afraid I'm not sure what's different about the ArchPup builds to cause this - my other UPup builds seem to be OK.
Also applies to the Arch64Pup build.....
If anyone can work out what the problem is that would be appreciated.

Hi peebee,
I ran ptheme from terminal in both Arch32Pup-20.05+0 and Arch32Pup-20.05+3.
Changed the theme to "original pup" and exited the program in both versions.
The +3 threw some errors during the run that the +0 did not have. May be a hint somewhere in the output?
Terminal output follows for each run, +0 is first.

+0 Terminal Output for ptheme changing theme to "original pup" and then exiting the program.
This one saves the changed theme to save folder and shows new theme on reboot.

Hi peebee,
In the Arch32Pup-20.05+3, the first run settings are not setting the locale in /usr/lib/locale/

I copied my /usr/lib/locale/ files from Arch32Pup-20.05+0 to the /usr/lib/locale/ Arch32Pup-20.05+3 save folder, now Arch32Pup-20.05+3 is saving theme changes and background wallpaper changes.
Discovered the "what" LOL, have no clue as to the "why".

I don't understand why, but......

the utilities locale and localedef (from glibc package) have stopped working:
/etc/rc.d/rc.country: line 63: /usr/bin/localedef: No such file or directory
/usr/sbin/chooselocale: line 447: /usr/bin/localedef: No such file or directory
/usr/sbin/chooselocale: line 1181: /usr/bin/locale: No such file or directory
/usr/sbin/chooselocale: line 1201: /usr/bin/localedef: No such file or directory

but give unhelpful error messages.

Replacing them with the Slackware versions works: ydrv:

Hi peebee,

I'm a little bit late but post this anyway

Arch32Pup-20.05+3: I did my usual frugal install - sdb1 (FAT32) booted via grub4dos, sdb2 (ext4) for savefolders
--> does not offer savefolder in save-dialog, only savefile possible (2fs, 3fs, 4fs). One has to use savemark/savespec to make it ...

Arch32Pup-20.05+0 was ok in this respect (savefolder offered/created/found on reboot).

Your latest Arch32Pup-20.05+4 solved this "problem".

PS: I noticed in PupSysInfo: Boot Partition (sdb1) shows wrong size, it's actual the size of sdb2, where my savefolders are sitting ...

PPS: does not auto-connect to eth0, have to use SNS - no big thing

peace

I'm thinking of installing this to a USB drive, but I'm not sure due to some issues I know. For example, my old ThinkPad has an internal Broadcom WiFI card and we all know the issue with that on Linux in general.

I also notice that ArchPup might lack access to the AUR. I might add the AUR to the PPM myself, but I kinda need a guide on that front, since I'm a novice and stuff.

Otherwise, I think ArchPup is a great idea and I hope it gets more attention. Because I always wanted to try an Arch-based distro myself.

Best regards,

@BologneChe - need to know which adaptor you have. If it is onboard, please run (in a terminal):
lspci -nn | grep etwork (note: first letter is lower case L)

If it is usb, please run (in a terminal): lsusb

Then run (in a terminal): dmesg | grep irmware

Then please post outputs here.

I believe Archpup64 is missing firmware you need - is in .pet below.
