Hi all.

I was able to convert the ISO image into a ISO-Hybrid Image to boot on usb drives.

Before i was not able to boot the image flashed on a usb drive but now after the conversation into a ISO-Hybrid image
now i can boot on a usb drive.

The FossaPup64 ISO-Hybrid image can be downloaded from mega here:

The MD5 of the ISO-Hybrid image is:

This can also depend on the program tool you use to do the install to USB.

The standard FossaPup64 ISO will install as a hybrid if you use one of these two programs to do the installation:

MS Windows - Rufus
Puppy LInux - Stickpup

Thank you for the additional information @Wizzard.

For myself when i wanted try out FossaPup64 neither did i had the possibility to use MS Windows aka rufus
nor did i had a puppy linux with Stickpup.

So for People who dont have MS Windows aka all the ones with Apple IOS and no running Puppylinux with with stickpup
like myself they will have problems with the standard ISO image to try out.

Lucky now they dont have the problem to rely on specific tools like rufus or stickpup to try out the newest Fossapup64 image
as it is allready converted to ISO-Hybrid and can just burned it either to usb drive or cd-rom be it on MacOS, CromeOS, Ubuntu Linux or what ever with whatever flash software they are used to
and can instant try out and run puppylinux.

In my view this is how it should be supposed be if you want try out Puppy Linux.
You should not be required to use any specific computer operating system like windows or any software to flash puppy linux to usb drive and to try it out.

I always run isohybrid on the KLV-Airedale ISO's, as soon as the ISO is created the very next step is to run it with the new ISO file

I use the inbuild default image burner in the ubuntu linux file browser.
See picture below.

I think most system have inbuild automatic systems when a user download a file that it looks up the type of the file and offers
a standard predefined default program to open it.

I would be not surprised that lot of puppy linux images fail to boot becouse most Standard Windows, MacOS and Linux Image Burner default Software
fails to create a bootable usb drive.

In my case i can confirm that flashing the normal non hybrid image in ubuntu linux using the standard default image burn program fails to create a bootable usb drive.

As a nearly 18 Year Ubuntu Linux user since Hoary Hedgehog
i tried many linux distors but always came back to ubuntu and since then
love the deb package system and i am always attracted to ubuntu derivates
like fossapup64.
If it does not sound like ubuntu i mostly leave the fingers from it but happy to try out new stuff on mention like KLV-Airdale.

Here's one more program that should work on Win, Linux and Mac http://wiki.rosalab.ru/en/index.php/ROSA_ImageWriter. Downside is it makes an iso9660 file system (read only), so you can't put a save file/folder on the USB too. You can get around that by remaking from Puppy with Stickpup. Don't have a Mac so can't test that, if you do, give it a try and let us know.

Anyone want to suggest use of simple Linux-Unix "dd" command for all WoofCE PUP ISOs and forum DOG ISOs I am aware of?

Also, does the OP know he can boot the ISO file directly, and have ALL the same operations as he would get from 'exploding' the ISO to a USB/disk or doing an expansion to USB/disk (previously called frugal)? This would provides some simultaneous flexibility for not just this single PUP but other forum distros, as well.

Runs in every Puppy I've ever thrown it at, especially given that it needs to be run with 'root' privileges.....which Puppy does by default. Works well, too. Uses 'dd' as the backend; naturally, when 'dd'-ing an ISO image you end up with that file-system, unfortunately.....

Can't have everything, I suppose. Bottom line is it's a piece of cake to use. You do at least end up with a bootable stick.

(Very similar to UNetbootin in some ways. That's 'dd'-based, too; you CAN specify the ability for 'persistence' - at least on 'buntu-based distros - but this option MUST be checked before you actually run it.)

Just some thoughts:

dd if=hybrid.iso     of=/mnt/your_USBorHDD   bs=1M
or 
dd if=bootable.img   of=/mnt/your_USBorHDD   bs=1M

But, I understand the caveats in use and any herein cavorts.

Additional helpful ideas solicited.

P.S. additional attempts to be specifically helpful toward something simple: Build AND boot FossaPUP64 via 1 of the following:

• Terminal command

  Code: Select all

  dd if=FossapUP64.iso  of=/mnt/your_USBorHDD   bs=1M

• Download the IMG file found here that contains FossaPUP64 and use it for booting this and all modern WoofCE PUPs and forum DOGs, as well.:

  dd if=The_Recommended-download.img   of=/mnt/your_USBorHDD   bs=1M

Thank you very much for the suggestion about burning the img direct to hdd/ssd and booting it directly.

On the Desktop where I run FossaPup I don't have a hard disk/ssd to save money.
That's why I used a usb to boot it.

If I get an additional device with a hard disk will try it out to boot direct from hard disk and report back.

At the moment I am very happy with FossaPup.

Works since weeks perfect on the desktop.
