Spektrum software defined radio .pet

Post by Anacleto »

Updated Spektrum PET with menu entrance > Education Feb/01/2022

I have made this pet of the spektrum program for the cheap Chinese sdr receiver.

For it to work it is necessary to install the pets that I did in the next post and make all the configurations that are shown there.

https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?t=4903

The pet file is as follows.

https://www.mediafire.com/file/fbd0296n ... 4.pet/file

*********** NEW PET FOR SLACKO64_8.2.1 **************

https://www.mediafire.com/file/jt8lg3qi ... 1.pet/file

Menu entry in Utility

*********** END **************

Is working fine in Slacko64_8.2.1, fossa64 and Quickpub64.

No menu entry, just connect sdr device and open terminal and write; spektrum

In my case the usb cable that came with the SDR device was low quality and did not work well, I replaced it with another good quality and everything perfect.

See you

@Anacleto
Sorry that the "Install Spektrum" and the "Install Gnuradio" threads have got a bit mixed up. I thought I better post this here to keep things right. I installed your .pet and Spektrum is now working. Please see attached image showing the spectrum of the FM band where I live. I think it will be a steep learning curve for me to learn how to use it. I found a launch script for it in /usr/share/spektrum2.1.0/spektrum. I dragged this to the desktop so as I could launch from there rather than launching from a terminal each time. I looked for an icon for Spectrum and found one in /usr/share/pixmaps but this shows up as a black square. Please see attached image of spektrum_icon. Instead I used the pixmap for mpaint which I thought was a bit more fitting as it shows three different colours. I might also make a menu entry for Spektrum.

Regards,

Ken.

Hello Keniv I am happy that you could install Spektrum on your computer.

It is easy to manage does not have many complications of menu, what I see interesting is that you can use it as a spectrum analyzer, to locate equipment signals inside the house, to adjust antenna tuning. etc..

I did the same place a script with the same icon on the desktop.

I do not complicate me a lot, but if you do not like the icon you can put another one of 48x48.

I live. I think it will be a steep learning curve for me to learn how to use it.

You have the tab above all to the left top next to the "SETUP" --- that is "MEASURE" there you change to another screen that you can adjust the gain of the signal and other things.

At this moment I am in a puppy distribution that I do not have Spektrum installed but also I remember on this screen you can adjust the dB level from which
you want to see the signal, and more things .... If you have doubts we can see it together.

I'm glad that it works, see you.
Greetings.

@Anacleto
I've now just installed spektrum on Quickpup beta4. I adapted the simple script I used to make a desktop launcher for GQRX and made one for spektrum (please see attached). Don't get errors this way.

Ken.

Hi keniv

@keniv

Sorry at the end I get too late and you can not answer this post.

The PET of Spektrum I made it very quickly and I did not make a menu entrance. I have to do a new PET resolving this problem.

If you want to make an icon on the desktop I am not very understood in this XFCE system of windows, but the way I do is the next. .

The Spektrum icon is your system in:

/usr/share/applications

Open the file browser and go to this directory.

Put the pointer over Spektrum file icon and with the right mouse button click and choose the "Open with" > "Open Geany tex Editor" to be displayed on the menu.

Once opened with Geany, it deletes all the text that is inside and copy all the following:

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Exec=spektrum
Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/spektrum.png
Terminal=false
Name=Spektrum
GenericName=Spektrum
Comment=Radio Spectra Analyzer
Categories=DataVisualization

Save and Close Geany

Opens a terminal within the directory that you are

/usr/share/applications

For this right mouse button and choose "Open Terminal here ...."
When the terminal is open, type the following command:

chmod 777 spektrum

With this give it all the permissions of execution to the spektrum file.

Now again you put on the pointer of the spektrum icon and press the right mouse button and select "Copy" and then followed again button right of the mouse and "Paste".

Create a file "Spektrum (Copy 1) .Desktop"

This file drags it to the desktop and you already have the icon working on the desktop.

As I told you, surely there are better ways to do I'm not very understood in XFCE.

If you do not like the icon, you can replace it in:

/usr/share/pixmaps/spektrum.png

But a size of 48x48.

For CubicsDR and GQRX the same but without changing anything the text inside of CubicSdr.desktop and Gqrx.destop only give it all permissions and the "Copy" and "Paste" and drags files to the desktop.

I hope it could help you.

Greeting.

@Anacleto

If you want to make an icon on the desktop I am not very understood in this XFCE system of windows, but the way I do is the next.

I also find it harder to do this in XFCE. Although I had the 32bit version installed I didn't use it much and so I'm not used to it. However, I now have a working menu entry and desktop launcher for both Spektrum, GQRX and CubicSDR. I do have a problem with CubicSDR but I will post on that in it's thread.

Thanks again,

Ken.

@Anacleto
Hi Anacleto,
Does your new updated pet just update the menu entry or have you made other changes? If it's the menu entry only then I would like to stick with what I've already got as I've already made a menu entry. If you've made other changes and you want me to test it then I'm happy to do so.

Regards,

Ken.

Hi Keniv

@keniv

You can continue with what you have, basically it is for new installation that has menu entry.

Hi Anacleto,
Thanks for the information on your new .pet. I think I will just stick with what I've got then as it's set up. I've also taken your advice and made copies of /root/.CubicSDR and /root/.config/gqrx.

Regards,

Ken.
