As far as I can tell, xvkdb already has some limited font customization ability. See http://t-sato.in.coocan.jp/xvkbd/faq.html and http://t-sato.in.coocan.jp/xvkbd/index. ... ocustomize.

There is a .Xdefaults mentioned in the latter. It is a hidden file in /root: /root/.Xdefaults. But examining that file gives me the impression that the specifications for fonts relate to urxvt and/or rxvt. Is xvkbd merely a graphic imposed on a terminal?

I can find no other information about how to customize Xvkdb. If the author of its documentation (creator of the application?) doesn't mention it I doubt that it exists.
Perhaps one has to start at the compile stage. About compiling, I know nothing.

Even given the limitations JASpup mentioned, viewtopic.php?t=4583 the florence keyboard seems to have greater customization potential. And it is generally available for most Linuxes, and consequently Puppys. https://pkgs.org/search/?q=florence%20keyboard

I did a bit of digging around earlier, Mike. I've started experimenting with Florence; I dug out a date-sensitive version of it for jrb's 'lite' spin on Quirky64 'April' 7.0.1.....largely my 'daily' driver, when I'm not in Bionicpup64, that is. One thing I like about Florence is the ability to alter the actual appearance of the keys; the 'hard' option under appearance gives a super-realistic 3D impression of a full-shaped 'raised' keyboard. Very neat.

Seems that although there's nowhere in the settings to change keyboard layout, Florence can be set to any keyboard layout that is supported by the "X" server. It comes with the US English layout by default, which I find a bit confusing 'cos things like " and @ are interposed.....and a few other things aren't quite where I'm used to them being!

To change layout is easy; simply enter

set xkbmap xx

....in the terminal, where 'xx' corresponds to the alphanumeric identifier for your language. In my case,

.....sets Florence to the English (GB) layout. As detailed here in the FAQ over at SourceForge:-

There's a lot of other documentation pertaining to Florence if you use the 'Next' & 'Back' options in the page corners.....including a number of available options for calling it & modifying behaviour on-the-fly via scripts. Which is quite neat.....and way more comprehensive than would be expected.
