Version 3.1.11 released!

Blog announcement:

https://bkhome.org/news/202111/easyos-d ... eased.html

It is running on my old workhorse PC right now, with radeon HD6870 video card, and I notice that the screen hasn't gone black after a period of inactivity. Interesting.

This release looks real good, see the release notes, many refinements.

I found that the firefox cache grows very large:

As the link explains, you can go into "about:config" and cut the limit down.

Thank you for this!

Tint and brightness work at the same time on my Acer 5738! My eyes are grateful.

For some reason, Tint and brightness still don't work on my AMD 5800x computer. If there's something I can do or learn to fix that on my end, or something I can add, I'd love to be of service.

Things download in a lot of places. There's /files/downloads and /home/Firefox/Downloads and /home/seamonkey/Downloads, and even though I didn't actually see the monero wallet gui tar when I went to the folder, /tmp/mozilla_firefox0

Yes, that is a security feature. Firefox cannot write outside of /home/firefox, and seamonkey cannot write out of /home/seamonkey

In theory, I could make /files/downloads world-writeable, and set the browsers to default to download to there.
But that would perhaps be weakening the security.

That's cool. I didn't realize that. Thank you for making it make sense.

Yeah, but I can see the convenience of having all downloads in the same folder.

I could make /home/firefox/Downloads a symlink to /files/downloads, and give /files/downloads 777 permissions, that is, world-writeable.

Seems that this should/could be global in EASY for lots of very good reasons, I think.

Today I invited a grandma from my neighborhood to learn Easy OS because her Windows 7 computer was getting really slow, and I love teaching people Linux. It went really well. She likes the way Easy looks and works. We got through booting, shutting down, and basic Firefox use.

I was testing YoutubeDL right before she came over, and that downloads to a different place, too. I thought it would go to /files/downloads, but instead it went to /root, which has a 2nd Downloads, but it wasn't in that. Just at /root. I think I have a little time before it becomes an issue for her, but at the level we're starting at, it would be a long, frustrating, not easy process to achieve successful understanding and use of 4+? separate download locations.

Try "about:about" to see options you may not know about.
It brings up a clickable list of “about” pages.
All kinds of stuff to play with.

This is available in any Mozilla based browser.

EasyOS is a great name for a distro. My grandma friend got a big smile when I was explaining what an operating system is, what EasyOS is, when I said, "it's so easy, it's even named 'EasyOS'".

Also, if you spell the sound, "Easy," in Esperanto, it's "izi," which is a palindrome, which makes me smile.

EasyOS was the first distro I ever installed, for the same reason my friend smiled. Going through distrowatch, then thinking, "Easy. Maybe I'd better start by trying that one."

Using radeon drivers works well.
On booting up, about half the time it ends up at the prompt.
I have to type xwin jwm and then its fine.
Ive attached logs. Dont know if they mean any thing.
When its working, restarting x server doesnt make it go wrong.

Audacious is missing an image in the menu.

Im using 1366x768 and the menu button is missing en.

I updated jwm to latest release. I wonder if there is some new setting to restore "Menu" button text?
Otherwise, will roll back to the older version -- the older versions works fine.

I see in the broken log, it loads the radeon driver, then unloads it.

Did you try running xorgwizard, and try explicitly choosing radeon driver, and if the problem still persists, try the modesetting driver.

Running xorgwizard and selecting modesetting.
It then starts up reliably.
But setting it to radeon it boots to the prompt half the time.

Ive just tried in another computer with a radeon and it works ok in that one.
Its probably just my laptop.
It does have 2 radeon graphics. R3 integrated and R5 discrete.
It must just be a bit confusing.

Perhaps there is something in the UEFI-Setup to turn one of them off?

Modesetting driver is still accelerated graphics, so ok to use.

This solution will be in the next release:
