If your chrome/firefox based browser doesn't work in Fatdog64 8xx, try this

Post by step »

Please help! My favorite <chrome / firefox variant> browser can't start in Fatdog64 8xx.

This question comes up rather often, and it usually boils down to installing the package dependencies for your browser. Modern browsers need Gtk3 and a few other packages, which aren't installed by default.

The following package list is what I use. Your browser might not need all these packages! Install one by one from the top, and test your browser after each package. Stop when it works.

gtk3-3.24.31-x86_64-1.txz
at-spi2-core-2.28.0-x86_64-1.txz
at-spi2-atk-2.26.2-x86_64-1.txz
glib-networking-2.56.1-x86_64-1.txz
libsoup-2.62.3-x86_64-1.txz
librest-0.8.1-x86_64-1.txz
libwayland-1.20.0-x86_64-1.txz

and upgrade atk2 to atk2-2.36.0-x86_64-1 (the version installed in Fatdog 811 and 812 is 2.28.1, this is too old).

I also install this package for my own rig but it's unlikely you will need it:

libnotify-gtk3-0.7.8-x86_64-1.txz

----

You can install packages from Fatdog's Control Panel > System > Gslapt Package Manager

edit: updated for libwayland / gtk3-3.24.31 / Tor-browser 11.0.0: see also https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?p=45189#p45189

Hi! I always install these packages and the address is: https://distro.ibiblio.org/fatdog/packages/810/

gtk3-3.22.30-x86_64-1
at-spi2-core-2.28.0-x86_64-1
at-spi2-atk-2.26.2-x86_64-1
glib-networking-2.56.1-x86_64-1
gsettings-desktop-schemas-3.28.0-x86_64-1
libsoup-2.62.3-x86_64-1
librest-0.8.1-x86_64-1
libnotify-gtk3-0.7.8-x86_64-1

You will see that the packages are up to date with the date 2021. Good luck! :thumbup2:
