The v21.10 beta is out with the RC coming in a few weeks.
It contains the following:
Zstd compression in filesystem, Pipewire as well as Wayland for systems with proprietary NVIDIA graphics drivers.
FYI
Edit: A video review is here

I think it says that zst compression will be used for deb packages.
It says it could make Ubuntu installs about 10% faster.

I have already raised in viewtopic.php?p=34175#p34175
dpkg-deb needs an update to handle zstd debs
I think I will raise a Woof-CE issue.........

@peebee recently @wiak has worked on fixing WeeDog build scripts to operate with zst compression when dealing with ARCH Linux repos. Perhaps there are some already working examples to look at.

Isn't that just a matter of installing package zstd ?, not sure though.
Zstd compression is —years later than planned— enabled for the main archive. This makes Ubuntu 21.10 installs faster than 21.04 installs (on paper, anyhow).
On the paper. Paper will endure everything, as the proverb says.
Wayland can now be used on systems with proprietary NVIDIA graphics drivers.
Finally. This is already good.
And I was also interested in this screenshot (upper part - Earthworm Jim, Metal Slug, Sub-Zero) from the link. Need to know the details about this Antstream and might even start using it in Puppy.
Different devices. Different approach.
@fredx181 I believe so. I am not sure yet what script mods were made to accommodate zstd compression, but definitely installing it is step 1
zstd compression and handling of zstd compressed archives was added to Woof-CE some time ago.
The change now is that .debs are appearing with zstd compression but it is impossible to identify this from the file extension unlike Arch.
So zstd compressed debs have to be handled by dpkg-deb - the Ubuntu version has been changed accordingly but some Slackware based Puppy builds use a .pet version of dpkg-deb and this needs to be updated.

That zstd deb package situation is different from the one I needed to address for WeeDogLinux Arch Linux flavour. The issue with Arch Linux is that it has started using zst for its kernel modules, and standard busybox modprobe cannot use these as yet, hence as a temporary remedy at least I chose to use kmod in the initrd for WDL Arch Linux based creations rather than rely on busybox modprobe (though I continue to simply use busybox modprobe in WDL initrd for distros where modules not compressed with zstd). As far as packages are concerned, certainly WDL_Arch64 has always included zstd compression since Arch packages are zstd compressed also.
