If you have a save-area, delete /opt/xfpup/xfpup-hints-shown and reboot to apply fixes.

I deleted this file, but it's not whited-out in a save, nor have I rebooted.
With this approach, Suspend logout dialog still does not work, but the shinobar script does.

I have gotten squirrelly enough in X-Tahr that shinobar's script or logout dropdown Suspend do NOT work, but echo "mem" > /sys/power/state does. Rare glitch. Dropdown is usually sufficient.

Honestly if there are multiple options (discussing 3 here: shinobar, cli, gui) and one works, I am happy.

Good to hear....... thanks @ProstoUser

It is a hybrid build - mainly Ubuntu but supplemented by some Debian where 32-bit Ubuntu components are no longer available.

To be "official" it would have to be merged into Woof-CE and this has not been done.

Terrific! First observation is menu categories reveal large app icons in the side pane, and I will have to learn how to switch to more compact app name listings.

Lock and Logout launcher are there up top. Settings opens a dialog similar to MATE's control area (X-series Control looks more like XFCE's Appfinder).

The only menu launcher missing from X-series is pFind.

Bonus: Whisker installation also places the missing menu category icons, but only in Whisker (the normal Application menu icons are still missing).

64 needs this. Upup.

Normally formatted & placed browser launchers are not running.

Panel 1 or Panel 2 make no difference.

In both panels, file manager launchers and terminal run.

The browsers can be run with the exact same commands from the command line.

links to:

looks like it needs Python3 & GTK+3 so you will need to load these as well........ a lot for dubious benefit??

you may be better off with older:

Thank you very much indeed for your response and links and i concur that it would seem too much to install for little benefit.
I will decline upon installing bleachbit for now.

Did it work on previous versions?

If it wants gcc you need to install the devx?

Also, it looks like a debian package is asking for ubuntu dependencies - very strange!

I don't use PPM personally..........

I have not tried previous versions of FF32. On the same laptop fossapup64,and jammypup32, PPM works fine. How do u install without using PPM?, although I use sfs, deb, AppImg, portables for some apps, I relie on PPM for the "routine" stuff. I loaded up the devx.sfs and still the same error.

JammyPup32 is very similar to FocalPup32 so the PPM should behave the same in both..... Have you tried the same app install (Gimp?) on JammyPup32?

I don't like having apps in my savearea .... and I don't like automatic installation of dependencies - so I tend to direct download apps, test them in a pristine boot and then convert them to .sfs if I want to use them in the future.

My suspicion is that you are trying to install a Debian App but PPM is trying to resolve missing dependencies from Ubuntu and 32-bit Ubuntu does not have those dependencies. Why PPM is doing this I don't know.

You may find the missing i386 dependencies from:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/g/gcc-10/

Hello.

I updated FF+D to the latest version, but I see many strange messages while it is booting, which I have not seen in previous versions.
Strangely, there was no such file as /initrd/tmp/bootinit.log

I replaced vmlinuz and zdrv sfs with those from jammypup32.
Most of the strange messages disappeared, but some error messages related to udev remain.

The following is part of the output of dmesg command:

Code: Select all

[ 26.809498] udevd[1248]: Starting version 245.4-4ubuntu3
[ 26.810805] aufs may_rename_srcdir:561:udevd[1249]: renaming dir who has child(ren) on multiple branches, is not supported
[ 26.810838] udevd[1249]: Failed to move watches directory /run/udev/watch. Old watches will not be restored: Invalid cross-device link
[ 26.837461] udevd[1249]: /lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules:29 Unknown group 'input', ignoring
[ 26.837933] udevd[1249]: /lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules:85 Unknown group 'kvm', ignoring
[ 26.838023] udevd[1249]: /lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules:87 Unknown group 'kvm', ignoring
[ 26.838365] udevd[1249]: /etc/udev/rules.d/55-cups.rules:5 Ignoring NAME="%k" is ignored, as it breaks kernel supplied names.
[ 26.862428] udevd[1249]: /etc/udev/rules.d/88-puppy-autodetect.rules:6 Invalid key 'DEVTYPE'
[ 26.862498] udevd[1249]: /etc/udev/rules.d/88-puppy-autodetect.rules:10 Invalid key 'DEVTYPE'

UPupFF+D-20.12+13 does boot, and it appears to be working normally, but there seems to be some incompatibility between the kernel and the system.

Woof-CE Issue #3502 raised:
https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/w ... ssues/3502

I read through the discussion, and I sort of understood.
I wonder if there was not any discussion among the developers before the change.

So, is there a workaround?
I will stay at +12, even if the weird messages displayed while booting do not affect the performance of the OS.

As a matter of fact, I have been using 64bit Puppies mainly recently.

Appearance in XFCE is generally how to control GTK, alas this is a partial list of installed themes:

32XFCE-Appearance.png
32XFCE-Appearance.png (33.41 KiB) Viewed 1016 times

I'm used to even Appearance culling the list from /usr/share/themes.

Partly this is dual utility conflict I'd assume.

The comprehensive changer here is ptheme_gtk for JWM. ptheme will run in XFCE while designed around JWM & you won't chance see it in the XFCE menu.

For usability there'd be only one GTK theme changer that works with no conflicts.
