Changing the topic title of a post

BIG ATTENTION MODERATORS:
Please, please do not change the name of a topic if you are not 100% sure you know what you are doing. This is frustrating because in many cases this not only confuses the original topic creator but also other users. There is a danger that changing the title may alter the original course/or cause of the thread or make it even less applicable to what is being or has been discussed. This happens and has happened before with my posts. So bottom-line - if you really feel that the topic should be renamed, fine but if not 100% sure, please have the decency to post on the thread or let the originator of the post know that you think the title should change to whatever rocks your boat. I'm not going to rename your rename if YOU make a mistake. THANK YOU.

This request has been posted to the moderators private topic section.
Sometimes we change a topic title, to get more people to see the issue, and starting with a better understanding of the issue.
Example:
cannot connect to internet
Change to:
WIFI adapter not being detected in Fossapup64

In my opinion there are far too many posts being edited by moderators with no reason being entered. It should not be a problem to insert a short explanation - even if just a few simple words (e.g. spelling correction - though even that is generally not worth editing since none of us are perfekt). I doubt many posters appreciate their own posts being edited by someone else on the whole. It is not a qualification required of any moderator that they be trained or specially qualified editors - that power would be more appropriate for a Wiki, where qualified editors are useful and probably required.
If my comment appeared only in special Moderators section that would not fairly allow forum members their opinion.
Edit example:
As an example of edit of this post.
Noticed if we edit a post and provide info on what we did and why.
This info will show as info at the bottom of a post, under last edited by:
