Steam missing files

Post by Zarius »

So, I've installed Steam, and gotten a screen that tells that Steam is missing "libGL.so.1" and "libDRM.so.2". Anyone know where I can pick up these files and, if not in a convenient .deb or other easy to run installer program, where I needs to shove them to makes my precious work? (Sorry, Golum'd there for a moment.)

Hexcore AMD|
Radeon RX 570
using a usb WLAN adapter
FossaPup installed on thumbdrive (for now)
sdc1 is 622M/635M FAT32 for the boot loader, sdc2 is 6.4G/6.8G ext4 for the actual puppy, installed as a frugal.

Hexcore AMD
Hellhound AMD Radeon RX 6600 via HDMI
using a usb WLAN adapter
FossaPup install on 500gb drive; 300mb for boot drive, the rest for Frugal install; folder, not file.

(Feel free to message me if there's anything else I should add here.)

Did you get Steam from Quickpet program in Fossapup64 9.5?
If no.
Use the Puppy Package Manager(PPM) uninstall the steam you installed.

First use Quickpet->Info->Fossapup updates
Reboot and save so the new changes are now being used.

Get Steam installed by using the one offered in Quickpet.

If you did get Steam from Quickpet.
It had a bug in it.
The Fossapup update fixes this, so it now provides a working Steam.

First time you run Steam it will probably want to update it.
That is an update from Steam.
That thing seems to constantly want to update, every time you log in.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

Okay, okay, no. I have, for some gods awful reason, both the steam version and the fossa-steam version. And they're giving me two completely different missing file sets.

The one on my desktop (which I presume to be the latest-steam one) is giving the "libGL.so.1" and "libdrm.so.2" error.

The one in my menu under Fun is saying it's missing "libstdc++.so.6" and "libxcb.so.1".

So, I'm just broke all over the place.

If you are trying to run steam in a terminal.
You are going to see all kinds of messages about issues.
Just ignore them.
Puppy Linux is not the same as main stream Linux OS's.
Puppy does some things the Puppy way.

Lets start over.

Delete any steam installs you see, by using the Puppy Package Manager(PPM) uninstall.
Start PPM.
Select the uninstall button.
A list of any software you installed should be listed.
Highlight what you want to uninstall.
Select remove package.

Also do a reboot to update the save and make sure the stuff is deleted.

You do need to do the Quickpet->Info->Fossapup updates
This will fix a bug in the Steam Quickpet installs.

After a reboot and update, to the fossapupsave, so it is now using the update changes.

Now try using Quickpet->Fun->Steam to install Steam

This is steam (installed using Quickpet) in my install of Fossapup64 9.5
Note:
It takes about 5 to 10 seconds to show up, after selecting menu->Fun->Steam
Probably because Steam is connecting to the Steam server.

Also do this the first time it opens to the login.
Do not login.
Close it so no longer running.
Start Steam again.
This time it may say it is updating.
So let it.
Then the login window should pop up.
Login now.
May need to do this more than one time.
This thing is constantly wanting to update, about every time you run it.

Another thing to do.
Because you are running Fossapup64 from a USB install.
After you install anything.
Update the save by selecting the save icon on the desktop.
Now try to run whatever you installed.

I would not expect Fossapup64 9.5 to be able to run really, really, high end Linux games.
Steam OS is probably best for that.
Plus hardware requirements are still an issue on very high end games.
Well, I have had good luck running some of the less demanding games.
But I have not really tried any really high end Linux games.
Example one that works well running in Fossapup64 9.5

This is free.
It looks simple, but it does have some good challenges.
Plus equipping your player, and finding stuff to use, is part of the challenge.

So, I uninstalled both of them. Saved. reboot. Reinstalled through Puppy Package Manager. Then it asked me to install a 32-bit compatibility set from "useful things" in the quickpet. Did this. Now it's doing the first time update. I shall advise once that finishes.
