I've got an better desktop, suited for mid-to-high end gaming and i'm planning to use PuppyOS as my main OS instead of Windows.

One question i have though is am i able to use Steam and Proton on the newest Puppy versions and derivatives?

I believe so! There should be some information around the forum and the old forum on running Steam.

Fossapup64 9.5 has a program called Quickpet.
Queckpet is a quick way to download and install some useful programs you may want.
Steam is one of them.
So, Steam is readily available to install in Fossapup64 9.5.

BTW, am i able to do a full install of Fossapup or is it frugal only?

My idea is to dual boot Windows 10 along with FossaPUP in a 2TB HDD.
So i'll leave 960GiB for PuppyOS + Steam Games and 850GiB for Windows for Fallback/compatibility reasons.

Also, do i need a SWAP partition since i have 32GB RAM?

Puppy is really now designed to work best as a frugal install.
Some features of Puppy only work as a frugal install.
Do frugal install.
Frugal is just the name, it is still the complete Fossapup OS, just a special way to install and run.

So i'll leave 960GiB for PuppyOS + Steam Games and 850GiB for Windows for Fallback/compatibility reasons.

that partitioning is OK.
Windows 10 actually has 3 partitions it sets up on the drive.
Do not change those.
The first 3 partitions.

You probably want to take the last partition, C-drive, and resize it smaller.
Then use the unallocated space to make the partition for Puppy and Steam games. (Linux ext 3 or 4 format)
Info on Steams website, may give specific info on what format is best to use.
If the games are Windows based and you have used them on Steam running in Windows 10.
ntfs format is probably what you want to format the partition.

The best way to install Puppy alongside Windows, is to use the program Lick;
viewtopic.php?f=105&t=336
https://github.com/noryb009/lick
Lick is a program that runs in Windows, for installing Puppy alongside Windows, so both OS's are on the computer.
It takes care of proper boot menu entries to boot both OS's.
Read the info in the Lick topic before using Lick.

32GB of RAM.

WE do not need no stinking SWAP!
I seriously do not see you ever using all 32GB of RAM! :!: :!: :!:
Fossapup, booted to working desktop, is using around 200 to 400 MB of RAM.

@MADC1993 :-

960 GB??? (*splutters*) Good God, man; you're living in cloud-cuckoo land, aren't you...?

You can take everything m'colleague is telling you, and run it right across the board for ME, too.

Listen to me:-

IF you insist on doing a "full" install, you will not only be hobbling Puppy, you will actually be voluntarily crippling her.....storing up multiple problems for the future, and wilfully denying yourself the use of ALL her best features.

The Puppy "full" install is actually a last-gasp way of getting her to run on very old, seriously resource-starved hardware. You're not in that position.....and Puppy is NOT a space & RAM hog like Windows. She doesn't NEED massive amounts of space to function at peak efficiency.

As bigpup is telling you, the 'frugal' install is just Puppy's unique way of installing/running her. Don't go thinking it's a cut-down, 'poor man's' version of her, because it's not; it's very much the 'real deal'. Frugal simply means she's designed to be careful with space, while still functioning as you would want her to.

Trust me; those of us who've been running her for years DO have some idea of what we're talking about!! :D

(Bigpup's right, BTW; like you I, too, have 32GB RAM. Even multi-tasking like crazy, the most I've ever seen in use is between 6 & 7 GB.....) Swap, however, is one of those things. You don't actually NEED it, but it never hurts to have some. I have chunks of swap all over the place, including one solid lump of 36 GB.....required because when hibernating, this HP insists on caching the entire 32 GB of RAM in one go, even when it's no more than 5-10% full.

(*shrug....*)

Mike. ;)

Puppy "stuff" ~ MORE Puppy "stuff" ~ ....and MORE! :D
