How to use a 4TB USB3 drive in EasyOS-Dunfell?

Post by FeodorF »

Hi All,

I would like to use this drive as a backup drive.
There is one problem - the manual says it is for W...7 or higher only.

SEAGATE STEG4000401 4 TB USB2/3 comp. incl. ext. power supply
EAN-Code 3660619402359 Region EMEA

I'm using Barry's EasyOS-Dunfell 2.8.1 as operation system.
This drive was never in use before.

Any ideas please?

@FeodorF :-

Is this one of the "Expansion" desktop drives, or is it one of the little portables you can slip in your pocket? I've used both, over the last few years. Shouldn't give you any issues. In fact, the "Expansion" desktop drive, I cracked it open, pulled the 3.5 inch "Barracuda'" drive from inside it, and it's now doing duty inside the new HP tower as a second, 'data' drive.

You'll need to re-format with gParted - it comes as NTFS, OOTB. After that, it'll function just like any other drive. Don't take any notice of what it says on the box about Windoze, etc; they pay the manufacturer, Seagate, to ensure their name is on the box!!

Mike. ;)
