I don't have much experience with the Nautilus file manager. what does your samba config file look like? Does Samba turn on from the Simple Samba GUI?

Samba alway on??? Is that a standard for Bionic? I've never used it, so I ask Bionic specialist.
In EVERY pristine boot and use of all past PUPs, the Menu>Network>Simple SAMBA Manager starts with SAMBA deamon off (RED in box).
For a simple NAS use, here's an option for your review
Boot a modern PUP, pristine (ie. pfix=ram)
After FirstRUN setup and/or the PUPs desktop restart if it occurs, go to Menu>Network>Simple SAMBA Manager
SAMBA WILL NOT be started
Enter up to 3 sharenames and their paths to each

Click Apply ... after the utility runs it "apply checker" the Samba daemon which was Red will now turn Green
You can also see that your NAS resources are seen on your LAN by opening a terminal and typing
If your PC shows your definitions, then ALL PCs on your Home's LAN can see these same folders you are sharing. For example, here is a sample of 3 resources shared

I hope these instructions are simple enough for getting a simple NAS type solution working for you. These instructions will work for ANY/ALL modern WoofCE PUPs and most PUPs since 2015.

Nautilus may need gvfs to be installed to access samba shares........
