Running Youtube from Pale Moon get unresponsive script error and eventually crashes.

Youtube works with Chrome.
Pale Moon plays videos from other sites with no problems.
I am using latest version of Pale Moon.
This problem just appeared.

Problem seems specific to Youtube.

Using Pale Moon v29.2.1, in Fossapup64 9.5 fully updated by using Quickpet->Info->Fossapup updates.

YouTube is working OK for me.

Got a link to a specific YouTube video that gives you this error?

I am using Pale Moon with no add-ons.
What do you have installed for add-ons?

Unless you are willing and able to help us finish support for Google WebComponents, there's not much you can do except:
Complain to YouTube that your web experience continues to degrade.

It likely won't help because they will just tell you to "use Chrome". And considering Google owns YouTube, that will be the final answer -- so, if you "live on YT" then I'd suggest you keep a second browser handy for your YT binging if the JavaScript delays (are they deliberate? We can't tell) are too disruptive.

On my system

Youtube running under Pale Moon ( if it hasn’t crashed yet ) cpu 99%.
Hard to kill. Still running in background. Unstable

Youtube running under Chrome (no errors) cpu 50%
This is a dedicated media box playing Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video under Chrome.

Ran Fossapup64 on bigger system

Youtube under Pale Moon ( no errors ) cpu 70%
Youtube under Chrome (no errors) cpu 30%

Solution is to use Chrome or get a bigger system.

Chrome is my daily driver but I was just curious about Pale Moon.

Same old sad song.
Google services for a google browser.

pale moon is ok for regular sites but for youtube it is tantamount to unusable and i cannot forsee any improvement in that regard.

I have no problems using Palemoon with youtube but then I'm using an older 32-bit version (28.14.2) on an old Puppy (Precise). ;)

You could try one of Invidious instances, e.g. yewtu.be and see how it goes.

It's an open-source and lightweight alternative front-end to YT: https://github.com/iv-org/invidious

Greetings!

@beau_tox :-

As xenial says, it's the same old story.

Google specifically optimise YouTube to work best with their own browser. I admit, I've been a Chrome/Chromium user ever since it "hit the shelves"; 13 years ago, Firefox was plagued with memory-leak issues, and was - to put it kindly! - "crash-happy" even on a GOOD day. YouTube has never been anything BUT smooth with Chromium derivatives; 'zilla-based browsers have always been something of a challenge.

The legacy of those days continues, right up to the present..... I don't ever see it changing. I mean, you can hardly blame Google; you purchase the most popular video-sharing site in history, AND you just happen to have the most widely-used browser on the planet. Put yourself in their shoes; in a capitalist world, what would you do?

Remember recently, when Mozilla outright accused Google of deliberately shutting their users out of YT, due to certain unpopular code changes?

---------------------------

@amethyst :-

I don't deny it is possible to get a decent YouTube experience with a 'zilla-based browser. I guess you must have hit on a lucky combination of software where - rarely - everything just "plays nice" together. Although I confess, I'm surprised that particular PM release is still working OK; it's not "up-to-date", and Google are well-known for changing the YT site code on a whim, several times a year.

Still, while it keeps functioning, use what works for you, I say. Go for it. :thumbup2:

Mike. ;)

@mikewalsh - I don't have any problems with Firefox or Seamonkey either (running in Bionic, Seamonkey also in Precise). I will say one thing however, I have NEVER updated a version from an existing install/file. I ALWAYS delete all traces of the older version and download a completely new file from the official download site.....

I had the same problem yesterday in Pale Moon 27.0.0 64-bit.

Since that's older than the version in 32-Xenial, I assume it just needs updating.

Botox doesn't mention version. Maybe the cutoff is 28?

There's always using a converter service to download videos.

@JASpup
No more 32bit linux versions of palemoon are being produced so even an update to the latest 32bit,(version 28 something) may not cure the issue.

I keep a 32bit version of palemoon purely for my flash content where palemoon still accepts the flash plugin but otherwise as far as 32bit linux is concerned it is a sinking ship.

Xenial, does that mean even Steve Pusser has called it a day? I haven't looked for quite some time; had my hands full with other projects, and I kinda gave up on it anyway.

Mike. :o

Hi mike.
I think there are issues with the compilation of the 32bit builds he produces so not certain whether he will issue any more updates.

I personally don't think the 32bit linux versions will last much longer.

Youtube works in 32-bit Pale Moon 28.16 in Tahr and default 27.6.1 in Xenial.

Pale Moon went up to 29.4.1-1 for Bionic 32/64.

We could use a nice chart of Firefox base (same for Chromium).

Not to veer off-topic, but the best way to update Pale Moon is to not have it builtin. Peebea using light makes that possible. All 32 is sinking but for the time being Pale Moon has life and resource conservation is an important niche.

I have discovered that youtube videos run a lot better when using the duckduckgo search engine in pale moon.I have DDG as my homepage in PM and there is a difference in performance when running videos via the video search in DDG.
