Slacko Update Manager v1.5.2

Post by mistfire »

This is an improved package update manager for slackware-based puppies written by @01micko

Changes:
* Highly configurable. It allows to set repo site and update interval by editing /etc/updates-mgr.conf file
* Dynamic package blacklisting. It allows user to block specific packages from updates by adding package names in /etc/updates-mgr-blacklist
* Added support for slackware current.
* Multiple package update selection (Uses @sc0ttman's pkg, only for slackware-current build puppies).
* View individual package changelogs.
* View latest slackware repo activities

This update manager works best on slackware-based puppy built from year 2020 onward due to introduction of clean upgrade/downgrade on PPM

Re: Improved package updater for Slacko

Have you had good results using this?

This is similar to the one that has been in Slacko for some time.

My results, letting it update everything it found, in the Slackware repository.
It can break stuff in Slacko.
It ends up replacing stuff, and making it no longer compatible, with some of the specific, Puppy programs.

Good overall idea.
But too much of the stuff it downloads and installs, is compiled specifically for Slackware and not for Slacko.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

For puppy made from slackware stable releases. You can't download package all at once. Only one package at a time. So choose wisely when you are updating packages came from slackware

updates_mgr 1.1 released

Changes:
* Added ability to select multiple packages to update. (Uses @sc0ttman's pkg as backend and only available for slackware-current build puppies. If these two conditions don't met, it automatically rollback to one package at a time update)
* More customizations on config file.
* Improved package filtering

It can break stuff in Slacko.

The updated packages don't pass through woof-CE's package templates, like the packages downloaded and modified by woof-CE.

Is it really safe?

Just be careful what package to be updated. That's why the updates_mgr updates one package at a time. Except for Slackware Current build puppies with pkg installed which update_mgr able to resolve and install dependencies via sc0ttman's pkg
