Hello!

As one can see here is a dark theme from the factory called the Prosilver Dark Edition. For now the Off-Topic Area will feature this theme for trial runs.
Let's see how it works.

Like it. :thumbup:

If you consider to reset the Off-Topic Area to another theme, please don't remove the theme itself.

Thanks.

Personally I can't stand it! Makes bright dots look like headlamps and hurts my eyes. Whatever... just hope you keep it only in Off-topics layer. The one that Mochmoppel describes elsewhere (which is light background and dark text, but I can't find where I read that now) looks great to me - must be different kind of eyesight I suppose. EDIT: It's this PS4 something theme given in link here: viewtopic.php?p=949#p949

That is: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/styl ... o/demo/3.2

Though even with that one the foreground text is too light for me. Actually the current main page theme, though not perfect (text again too light) isn't too bad - I'm getting used to it.

But this Prosilver Dark Edition is unusable to me. What a struggle - it kills my brain!

[mention]wiak[/mention] I think the idea is to leave the theme at the default theme but give users choices of other themes.
If you don't like it then don't use it.

[mention]rockedge[/mention] has made the off topic area dark so users can see the effect without setting it in their profile. I'm sure rockedge will correct me if I'm wrong.

Mmm..!! :thumbup: :thumbup:

Yup, I could live with this. Saves the need to keep engaging the DarkReader extension all the time....

I like it!

Impossible for me to read - I mean in that dark style. The standard theme was better on my devices.

I like the ne-blackgreen theme, it's my new favourite, on my mobile phone anyway. Not sure many others will like it though. :thumbup2:

I do also smokey01. I grew up on terminals connected to mainframes glowing green on black. I set my terminals on all my Puppy's to be green text on a black background.

ne-blackgreen is nice. Please keep it as an option. Unlike all other dark themes so far the text is mostly white and readable. The green color gives it a retro touch. Looks like a monochrome monitor of the 70's.
:thumbup:

[Edit] rockedge posted while I was still writing. With the old board I would get a message that a new message has been posted. Can this be done with the new board?

@ Mochi:-

I believe you ought to get a notifier at the top right of the page, with a small number showing how many you've got. Click this to open; if it's a PM, clicking on it then takes you directly to it.

At least, it seems to work this way for me. I think the small, separate new window was peculiar to older versions of phpBB, and has been replaced by the 'Notifications' item. It's going to take all of us a while to get used to the new layout, and new way of doing things; there's probably in-built limits on how much of the old coding it's even possible to implement.

My only niggle with it is that there seems to be no way of clearing your notifications list. It just gets longer & longer as time goes by.... Can this be implemented, rockedge..?

(BTW, I do like this dark theme. Very easy on the eyes.)

I had a shufti through the Styles database over at phpBB, specifically looking for dark themes; I found a few 'possibles', but I must have missed this one. I agree whole-heartedly with Mochi; please make this one an "option" for those of us who like such things.....dark themes are apparently NOT to everyone's taste.

Most of the time I use the 'DarkReader' extension; you can get it for both Firefox and Chrome.

BTW, with regard to terminal colour choices? I used to favour yellow text on a dark blue background, but recently I've switched all mine over to turquoise text on a black background. I use a very sweet 'mono' font-set I found over at FontSquirrel shortly before Covid hit, back in early February; it's called "JetBrains Mono". It's fairly new, only being released mid to late January this year.....and specifically designed for terminal work & coding.

You can find it here if you fancy trying it out:-

https://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/jetbrains-mono

It's particularly good-looking, I feel, in the 'medium-italic' variant:-

[mention]rockedge[/mention] using the mention tag is a bit difficult in ne-blackgreen as it's light grey on a lighter grey background in the drop list. It would be good if these colours could be changed to something more readable.

I noticed as well that the drop down was very hard to read using it in the mention tag.
I will see what can be done.

@wiak catches the attention....does the profile style setting over ride the style that is selected for a forum as the default?

I just tested and no it does not appear to.

What mention tag? "Notifications" dropdown list shows the "Someone mentioned me" notifications in green (#00DD00). Or are you talking about the [quote] tag?

typing a "@" followed by the user name a drop down menu will appear to select the user. I have already changed the background color of the simple mention module menu for further testing.

It should be easier to read now

It does on my side. I have the dark theme with blue text as default settings. When entering this topic/area it has the green text.

My only trouble with "ne-blackgreen" is the hardly readable code when using [code] tags.

This is what it looks now:
codecurrent.png
codecurrent.png (5.97 KiB) Viewed 902 times

And this is what it looks when I change the color from #0d0 to #fff (white) and font size from 0.9em to 1.1em:
code_customized_font#fff_1.1em.png
code_customized_font#fff_1.1em.png (8.33 KiB) Viewed 902 times

Color is defined in .codebox code class (file colours.css). This definition could even be deleted. It would then inherit the default #fff color. BTW: Green color is not only hard to read, IMO it is wrong here. Green is consistently used in the theme for links. Text in codebox is not a link, so should not be green.

Font is defined in .codebox code class (file content.css). Even 1em appears too small for me as the monospace font tends to blur details. E.g. seeing clearly if brackets are round or curly is important, and with 1em this gets hard to distinguish.

[mention]MochiMoppel[/mention] excellent point so I made the changes

Testing code block :

Code: Select all

/* Code block */
.codebox {
	background-color: #000000;
	border-color: #808080;
}

.codebox p {
	border-bottom-color:  #808080;
}

.codebox code {
	color: #fff;
}
