Notifications from Unsubscribed Topics in "Off Topic Area"

I seem to be getting notifications from the "Off Topic Area" for threads that I'm not subscribed to (e.g. mozilla big brother). Not only that the UI to unsubscibe is confusing. Prior to clicking on it it shows a check box saying that I'm subscribed and then after I click on it in hopes of unsubscibing it says that I'm subscribed.

I think I fixed this by going to "user control panel/subscribtions" and then unsubscibing to the "off topic area" so perhaps it isn't a forum bug but I don't remember ever subscribing to this forum.
