Tested: Used SG2D to boot the ISO file directly. Boots to desktop and ran FirstRUN.Cosmetic changes and saved session to /Sessions folder as a folder on the ext4 partition at Shutdown to reboot. Rebooted without issues as it found the saved session.

Problems

  1. Immediately before the Desktop emerges is an error message on console. Too fast to catch.

  2. On desktop, Attempted to use Print-Scrn key to capture a desktop but, end in error. Also in ROX, left-clicking an image file, eg something.jpg does nothing.

    Print-screen key error.jpg
    Print-screen key error.jpg (31.32 KiB) Viewed 7567 times
  3. SAMBA not working; gather message when you issue following terminal commands

    Code: Select all

    smbclient -U% -L NAS
    samba -V
  4. mount command for LAN resources do not work

    Code: Select all

    mount //192.168.0.2/Pup-Dog_ISOS /mnt/Test/BOOTISOS

Continuing to test

try to mount this way

Code: Select all

mount -t cifs //192.168.0.2/Pup-Dog_ISOS /mnt/Test/BOOTISOS -o user=Clarity,vers=1.0

Re: SLC 64 Slackware - Portable browser oddity [SOLVED]

G'day norgo,

Thanks for this Pup.

Installed easily and connected to my printer, scanner and internet. My all-apps-via-links sfs loads and runs as usual.

I'm having a strange problem with portable 64-browsers (Brave, Iron, Vivaldi) that work on other 64-bit Pups on my computer.

The browser opens and display its home-page as per my profile for that browser. But if I then click on a 'secure' site from the 'Bookmarks' bar, I see a message 'Establishing a secure connection.." but nothing then happens.
When I click on a site that the browser says (incorrectly) 'this is not a secure site' (when I know it is, as I define 'secure' :) ), the non-secure site will load and run as normal.
Running the portables in a terminal gave no clue to me as to what is happening when these browsers hang 'Establishing.....'. I could try this again if it would help you (or Mike Walsh?) fix my problem.

Posting this from your in-built Germanic Seamonkey which has no problem with these "secure" sites.

Thanks again.

David S.

Postscript: I took norgo's advice (see next post) and installed his updated sqlite - portable browsers Iron, Brave and Vivaldi all now open 'secure' and old sites with rapid connection.
Thanks norgo.

@davids45
thank you for feedback
the reason for your browser problem is the installed sqlite version.
I compiled the latest version sqlite-3.34-1. to solve this problem
Please launch the package manager and update the package database.
Now you can install the new sqlite version from [ puppy-slc64-norgo ] repository and your browser should run

I need those samba services. If you rebuild, would you insure they are there. All official WoofCE have this for many years.

BTW: when you boot pristine, are you saying

  1. Print-Scrn works to capture window/screen?

  2. and the mount command works?

  3. and SAMBA is present?

3 things I am having concerns.

Thanks

@Clarity
I would say there is something wrong with your installation.

check the md5 checksum of the ISO
or did you install some applications additional ?
As already mentioned, it's impossible to help without information.
I don't like to guess

1. Take a shot is working flawless in my case
2. Left-click on a jpg file in ROX opens this file with viewnior
3. smbclient

Code: Select all

# smbclient -U norgo -L 192.168.1.1
Enter norgo's password:

Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.37]

	---------            -------

	Workgroup            Master

4. mount

Code: Select all

# mount -t cifs //192.168.1.1/Drive1_1 /mnt/TEST -o user=norgo,vers=1.0
Password for norgo@//192.168.1.1/Drive1_1:

Wow & THANKS! :idea:

I haven't had an MD5 download error in a decade; "Spoiled!". As a result, I never suspected it as a culprit.

"All is well."

I wil continue testing system's use.

@Clarity
I've no idea what package of chrome you've installed.
The chrome version of my repo has the package name chrome-88.0.4324.96-x86_64 and the simple description "Web Browser"
Your installed version google-chrome-88.0.4324.96-x86_64 and the description "Google-Chrome is a web browser based on bla bla"
Furthermore I can't detect the installed sqlite version 3.34.1 on your system.

Found the problem; "sqlite". My OLD eyes missed what PPM shared. It showed me the discrepancy with what PPM had and what the system had.

Old eyes, late at night, sun-spots (HA!)...in any event, I missed the screen's accuracy. After upgrade, all is well.

Thanks again!!! :thumbup:

Chapeau!

Downloaded and 'installed' frugal, booted straight to desktop with plang=de_DE.UTF-8

ATM some common problems with Slacko in general when it comes to internationalization see this post and this (exept the first error doesn't occur on SLC64), but nothing that couldn't be fixed.

viewnior crashes when showing properties of an image. I have read about it in the forum, but don't recall where.

More about internationalization upcoming in german forum....

My first impression is so WOW ;)
I like it very much.

Thanks for your hard work (i bet it still is)

Thank you very much for this positive feedback and for your good work (internationalization) of course too.
I compiled viewnior from source just right now.
Up to now I wasn't able to reproduce the application crash.

Hi norgo

You have made another nice build. Thank you!
I have always enjoyed your 32bit Slacko's.
And I have not run into any problem yet with this 64bit. It works fast and reliable.

I would like to compile some little things.
Do you have a devx somewhere? Thanks.

What about the light dimming for screen? It has xbacklight or acpilight? Or dimming works via F5-F6 keys on thinkpad?
Is there a 32 bit version or not?

@Dingo
xbacklight is installed but not tested extensively because lack of laptops ;-)
It worked on my neighbours Asus laptop with nvidia graphics.
Up to now there is only the 64bit version.
