Woof Woof!
I would be very interested to try an Amiga-like operating system for the PC platform, icaros desktop, however I'm a bit confused:
I ask for someone if eventually knows the answer to my troubles
On this page:
https://vmwaros.blogspot.com/p/download.html
Are listed several version and 2 live ISO. One bigger for DVD, one smaller for CD. Are these real live CD/DVD not trying to install anything automatically? My major concern is that these lives boot and then starting erase hard disk

Hello. If you just need to look at the system, then try running in a virtual machine. I've tried running the DVD version in QEMU running in Fossapup. It works quite well.
Something can change on your main system only if you run the linux-hosted-install.sh file from the root of the DVD. It allows you to install Icaros DIRECTLY into the main system as a hosted standalone system.

In the manual it has info on installing using the install program.
You have to run the install program from a booted live running OS.
That seems to indicate it is a normal live OS, if you burn the iso image to a CD/DVD.
From the manual:
You can even just use the Live version without a real installation: you won't be able to save your preferences, files and boot/loading times will be considerably slower.
So, seems booting live does not have persistence like Puppy does with a save.

Hello. If you just need to look at the system, then try running in a virtual machine.
Hi Grey, or anyone.
On the old Forum, scattered about, were instructions and tips as to how to configure a virtual machine. As I recall, running a "frugal puppy" --maybe any Puppy-- in a virtual machine wasn't exactly intuitive. Something about having to create a virtual drive to install it into, and then configuring the system so that datafile could be transferred between operating systems.
It would really be helpful if someone could provide detailed instructions, preferably somewhere in the "How to" Section.
Thanks in advance.

We can transfer a hard disk image between systems. There is a qemu-img utility for QEMU (https://linux.die.net/man/1/qemu-img)
And QEMU GUI can create and use images. We just need to install Puppy on this "disk", configure Puppy itself and then we can share the image with the rest of the forum users or use it in any Puppy that has QEMU.
It seems Clarity has already written a mini-tutorial on QEMU:
viewtopic.php?f=146&t=949
The only thing Clarity forgot to mention was the need to partition(and create partition table) the virtual disk with GParted after booting virtual Puppy.
Or do you mean there was some tricky datafile there? But why such difficulties...
