Bionic64 Wireless no automatic connection

Post by willithepuppy »

Hello, my question is about Bionic Pup 8, 64 and the wireless network. The installation is frugal with Save File on Hard Disk.

In addition to the internal card (Wlan0), an USB WLAN stick (Wlan1) is also installed in my Laptop. Now I want Puppy to accept automatically connect to the same network every time it starts. via the USB stick (Wlan1).

But that doesn't work. I've tried SNS and Frisbee.
The manual connection can be established correctly with Frisbee after the start.
In which file can I set the default, so that an automatic connection takes place and what do I have to enter there? Would be nice if someone could help

If you are able to get a working connection and you save.
It should boot up and auto connect.

Should be getting a selection to set as default, when you finish making the connection setup.
Are you seeing this?
Example, yours may look slightly different:

Click on set as default button to set it for auto connect using that connection wizard.

I will assume the frugal install is also on the hard drive and is at the same location you placed the save.
You are booting using the normal boot menu entry, so the settings in the save are used??
To make sure.
What boot menu entry are you using to boot?

With two WIFI adapters powered up.
Could be a conflict in the boot process, choosing the correct one to auto connect.
Go into the computers bios setup.
See if it has option to disable the internal WIFI.
So the only one being powered on boot up is the USB one.

Not sure if this will help, but it is something you should do.
On the desktop is the Quickpet icon.
Run Quickpet->Info->Bionicpup updates
This will download and install all updates and bug fixes.
Save and reboot so new changes are being used.

Try connection after doing this update.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

Thank you for the fast answer. Unfortunately I can't get into the BIOS of the laptop. The display is removed and the output via HDMI does not appear until the drivers have been loaded. I thought that this could possibly be specified in a file so that it is outreading while booting.
The SSID and the password are saved automatically, but not the card (Wlan1).

@willithepuppy - maybe try this: connect using frisbee; edit /etc/frisbee/interface to be wlan1; reboot, saving. No promises.

Unfortunately I can't get into the BIOS of the laptop. The display is removed and the output via HDMI does not appear until the drivers have been loaded.

Just as it boots press whatever key is suppose to access the bios setup.
Keep it pressed down until the display shows.
Hopefully it wil appear showing the bios setup.

Most laptops have the airplane switch.
Could try using it to turn off the internal WIFI.
Reboot.

Is there some reason you do not want to use the internal WIFI wlan0?

Yes, I damaged it while disassembling the laptop. Accidentally removed the antenna. I don't like taking it apart again. Too much effort.

I give up. I've taken it apart again after all. It cannot be switched on after assembly. Electronic waste. Thank you and a nice weekend for all.

Although this is too late now, the solution would have been very simple.

During boot-up, SNS checks the saved profiles for the network devices. It starts the first interface it finds in the "connection" list/profiles that works. If you delete the profile for the interface you want to exclude, only the "good" profile would be there to start with.

If that doesn't work in Bionic, install the latest SNS version.
