Have tried downloading this twice. Have found it to be extremely slow and gave up both times. This could be at my end but I don't think so. Will try again later.

Regards,

Ken.

What's the specs of your computer did QuickPup booted from?

I don't think it was an issue with specs but more an issue with download speed from google drive. I did try again and this time download speed was a bit faster so I went and had a coffee and came back to see the last of it download. I have QuickPup 20.6 installed but had not updated for a while. Anyway 21.00 now installed and I'm posting from it now. Have not done much but have noticed that wifi does not auto-connect on reboot. I had the feeling that this had been made the default from one of the updates to v20.6. I think I have a post on this previously in the thread. I'll have a look for it.

Regards,

Ken.

Edit: Found the link outlining how to get wifi to auto-connect on boot up so that's now working. However. I see that OS is now updated to 21.01. I made a new save folder with v21.00. I take it if I now update to v21.01 I should make another fresh save folder. If this is the case and given the time it has taken to download the 21.00 iso I think I'll leave this for a while before I try to download the most up to date version.

Have now downloaded and installed v2101 with new save folder. Set up wifi auto-connect. Using portable palemoon 29 and portable iron as browsers so did not install adrv. Good to be able to do this. Posting from palemoon know. Still don't know what the issue was with downloading yesterday but it went better today. So far all seems fine.

Ken.

Regarding downloads you talked about, it might be your ISP having problems on accessing google servers.

Hi @mistfire
Finally...
Fresh new install, running smooth, consistent, eth0 network finally connects automatically

As always, I like to install my own packages for testing, such as pcmanfm 1.3.1, PPM 2.5 fixed, dark themes and testing my new Xrandr's Screen Adjuster 1.6, all of the above work without any problem ...

This version showed me that it can be improved with patience, passion for what you do and the comments that we all make with the intention of improving this system

Congratulations

Updated manual frugal installation to 21.02. @mistfire It just gets better all the time. Very impressive, I just found by chance while moving my cursor over the battery indicator and was surprised that it now has a brightness control slider, as well as the XFCE Power Management.

The only issue, which is not specific to Quickpup, is that the XFCE Weather plugin at present isn't working. This seems to be an ongoing occurrence with many XFCE installations. The location is currently being found and set correctly, but displays 'No Data'.

Edit: Trying to install later version using PPM which shows 0.10.2 available but fails to download package, so I tried to compile the latest version 0.11.0. I have the latest devx which I loaded. The compile failed and I don't know how to fix. The last four lines of the configure are:

Code: Select all

checking how to run the C preprocessor... /lib/cpp
configure: error: in `/mnt/sda6/xfce4-weather-plugin-0.11.0':
configure: error: C preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See `config.log' for more details
config.log.gz
File is fake .gz
(32.95 KiB) Downloaded 39 times

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

The reason I attempted the compile as mentioned above is that any downloads attempted using PPM which attempts to download from the slackware-15.0 or slackware-current repositories fails to download. I can download from slackware-14.2 or the slackware-15.0-salix repository successfully. To check I booted with pfix=ram and after update, I updated the PPM database and re-tried several downloads. All downloads which were from the 2 mentioned database failed, while other downloads were successful.

Slackware-15.0 and Slackware-Current repos are dynamic repository because it was rolling release. You need to update it first if you want to download packages on PPM using that repo

@TerryH

Did you try to install via pkg?
Also regard compiling. I read the config log, did you load the xfce dev files and linux headers?

P.S: Slackware repos sometimes return 404 not found even it exists. The solution was to wait for few minutes then try to download the package

Hi @mistfire

This is something that I had already seen from the beginning but until today I could see it as a mistake ...
It is about the clock, since when starting the setup, we select the city where we are located, but it does not make changes to the clock that is in the lower bar, for this, we have to do it directly on the clock and select from the area where we are, Up to here we would solve the problem of the schedule, but when installing conky and this when representing a clock, it shows a totally different time and date from the one we are supposed to define on both occasions ...
Could it be a bug or is conky just not fit for use with XFCE?

QuckPup uses localtime by default to avoid messing the clock on Windows during dual boot.

PPM > Help and Menu > Help fail to launch a web browser, also adding the Web Browser as a launcher in a panel fails to execute. The problem is these instances use the command:

Code: Select all

exo-oen --launch WebBrowser %u

The problem is that this command is attempting to execute light browser. You need to update this to use the installed browser in quickpup, seamonkey instead of light.

Edit: I found exo-preferred-applications and changed it to seamonkey. The default should still be changed from light to stop the errors by default.

Try to replace /root/.pkg/pkgrc with this configuration

Code: Select all

WORKDIR=/root/pkg
REPONAME=slackware15.0-salix
EX=txz
REPOFILE=Packages-slackware-15.0-official
REPOURL1=http://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/salix/i486/slackware-15.0/
REPOURL2=http://slackware.uk/salix/i486/slackware-15.0/
REPOURL3=http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/salixos/i486/slackware-15.0/
REPOURL4=
PKGSEARCH="list_pkg_names"
PKGSEARCHEXACT="pkg -ne"
DEPSEARCH="list_all_pkg_names"
DEPSEARCHEXACT="pkg -nea"
REPOFALLBACKS="slacko14.2 slackware14.2 slackware14.2-extra slacko14 noarch common32"
PKGSCOPE="all"
DEPSCOPE="all"
BLEDGE="no"
RDCHECK="yes"
AUTOCLEAN="no"
BUILDTOOL=petbuild

Then try to install program via pkg again
You can also use Package Manager NG, the GUI frontend for pkg. It works like PPM

Upon reading the source code of xfce4-weather-plugin. The website for weather report was hardcoded. I wonder if those sites were still exists.

Yes, it will be something to do with that, as the version currently installed is 0.8.2. I have 0.10.2 in a 64 bit Debian Dog, which still works. I am trying to update to at least that version or even the latest 0.11.0.

Edit: I update the pkgrc as per your previous post. The 0.10.2 version appeared, however when checking the package status it showed 'Not in any repo'. It failed to install. I then manually checked and downloaded the package from within a browser from the NLUUG Salix x86 repo. It installed but failed when trying to add to panel.

At present I'm going to just leave it out and try again in a few weeks.

You need to install icu4c 56 to make it work. QuickPup has icu4c 68

Oh boy...

Does not recognize the LG 24ge40nu CD/DVD burner
No ext2/3/4
That damned tmpfs instead of /tmp. Lotsa stuff gets lost there, some trivial like the disconnect icon for networks others not.

This and precise 5.7.2 light are no-go

Did you check the MD5 Checksum of QuickPup that you downloaded and compared with the given checksum?

Tossed it already. Keeping Precise572 onCD... no repos, no security upgrads possible

Will D/L again and try FF78.9 32-bit in it. But no ext2/3/4 supporrt is rather un-linux-like.
C'mon... it won't hurt a bit, I promise. :thumbup2:

Dead fish.

D/L 21.03, burned to CD, md5sum matched
Configure eth0 (DougAl), Added FF78.9esr and installed 3 add-ons (uBlock, Clear URL, CSS exfil) and set up about:preferences. Close browser and D/C from internet
Gparted sdb1 2Gb partition to W32 and set boot flag (NO ext2/3/4 available)
Install to sdb1 shutdown with 512Mb save ext3 (3fs)
... my SanDisk USB stick that WILL boot as ext3 NO BOOT
Furthermore, the unacceptance of the cd burner caused a no handshake condition that locked the door... can't remove the CD using the button.

Well, I put AtomicPup ff66 back in, and the CD burner recognized ... door opens, toss your CD in Trash.
useless ro me... I been running 32-bit for 6 years here, and another 6 years with the EEEpc suplied Xandros.

BTW, you might try a k4.19 hernel LTS with patching from kernel org enabled.
JMHO and experience
