Can't connect to wifi in Fossapup64.

Post by iguanachu »

Hi!
I'm trying to give an use to an pretty slow computer. It has a Celeron(R) CPU J3160 @ 1.60GHz and 4 Gigs of RAM.
The thing is that whe I click "Connect", then Internet Wizard, etc., just like this video. The conecction isn't succesful.
I tried all the options that came with the OS but none of them seem to work.
Plus, I had to create the usb to boot with Etchert a program that I used before to install Ubuntu on another pc, because the program recommended here just creates a usb that is recognized for the BIOS but it seems to be not okay because the BIOS everytime I choose it sends me back to the BIOS or Windows. With the new program the usb is correctly created BUT, now I cannot format it again to try to install another distro because it is not correctely recognized by the Disk Manager and everytime I plug it in Windows says: Insert disk on USB...
Sorry for the long post, and thanks!
Edit:
Sorry, I forgot to paste the link of the video where I found the instructions.
I downloaded FossaPup64 9.5.
The steps are: Connect > Wired or Wireless LAN > Network Wizard > wlan0 > Add to List > OK > Wireless > Scan > (Select my wifi) > (I pick WPA2 (because I know it has that encryption)) > (I write the key) > Save > Use This Profile and right after that it tries to connect but it is "unable to establish the WPA connection".
I click on details and it says "Connection info Access Point: Not-Associated.

Focus the question. Write wifi and installation questions in separate posts.

What connection doesn't work, wifi or LAN?

Can you see your network?

Which tool are you using?

What exact version of Puppy?????
Yes it can make a difference in how to fix your internet connection problem.
When you try to connect.
You do what?
You see what?
Step by step details can tell us if you are doing something wrong.

You see what is happening, we do not?
We only know what you tell us!

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

Sorry, I wrote this on a hurry.
I don't have any installation issue, I just wanted to clarify that I can't try any other distro so you know in case someone could recommend something like that. I updated with the instructions I followed. Sorry, again.

This is how it should work and you seem to be doing it correctly.
The WPA key is case sensitive.
Are you sure you entered it correctly?
WPA is not the same as WPA2.
Sure you selected the correct WPA?

1. Select Network Wizard
2. Select wlan0 (your network card may have a different description)
3. Select Wireless in the Configure wireless network box.
4. Select Scan and your ESSID should come up.
5. Select your ESSID and OK
6. Give a name to your profile. It should already be what you selected in step 5.
7. Encryption. Most people use WPA/TKIP - select it or WPA2.
8. A box will open for you to write the WPA password. It is called a Shared Key. Enter the password.
9. Leave the other boxes as they are. Rarely do these need adjustment.
9. Select Save
10. Select Use This Profile
11. A box will appear showing Puppy trying to connect
12. A box will come up “REPORT ON TEST 0f wlan0CONNECTION” should say it is connected OK.
13. Select Auto DHCP in the Configure interface box and it will go through a handshake routine. and declare itself successful
14. Select done

@iguanachu - you're probably missing some firmware, or driver is flaky. Please run the following in a terminal & post results:

lspci -nn | grep etwork

and then

dmesg | grep irmware
