Lightzone - raw photo editor

I have managed to get Lightzone working in Xenialpup32 with rsh's old LP2_LightZone_4.0.0-0_i386.sfs from 2014. Now I'm seeking to get a 64 bit version running in puppy, preferably in fossapup, but haven't yet found a way nor files to achieve this. Can someone guide me to a solution, any version from 4.0 onwards would suffice, a portable welcome. A Lightzone 64 sfs or similar is needed and an according java structure.
In my youth I had been an avid photographer with slr's and own darkroom developing. When digital cameras came up slr's were much too expensive for me and I had to settle to simple gear.
Now I have discovered it is possible nowadays to purchase used professional gear at affordable prices and I own a Canon 5D II now, which gives me much pleasure. So the next step is to settle on a raw photo editor, open source of course. There are some, and I would prefer Lightzone for a start.

I have downloaded and successfully used lightzone-4.1.5_64.sfs from https://archive.org/download/Puppy_Linu ... 1.5_64.sfs in at least bionicpup, if not fossapup.
BUT, you also need to install an updated Java Run-time-environment sfs. You might try one from the parent site: https://archive.org/download/Puppy_Linux_Forum_Pets
As a check, using my daily driver - Bookwormpup64_10.3, I loaded jre-8u241 and lightzone sfs listed on the sites and it seemed to load, but displayed an error on the way, which does not seem to have affected its operation.
BTW, I have found the Lightzone program unique, but hard to use - rephrase that, hard for a senior to remember the way to do things a week or two later. For a simple and practical editor (which may not be appropriate in this case) I use Faststone Portable ( see portableapps.com ) which runs perfectly under Mike's portable WINE., and which I think handles RAW images. But there are others running under Linux which are great, especially Krita.

Hi Dellus, I have no answer regards a 64bit Lightzone, but just as a suggestion - I believe Peebee (i could be wrong) has produced a "32 bit compatibility" sfs which allows 64bit Puppies to run 32 bit software.
I have seen lots of people have success with this so maybe it is a possibility for your needs and may possibly allow you to run RSH's original 32bit version that you are used to.
Possible link for the compatibility sfs:
(see the post from Rockedge)

(I imagine Rockedge would be happy to assist with questions about this)
EDIT : Bigpup has posted a new link for the Fossa compatibility sfs:

Would be interesting to know if this method enables RSH sfs'es to run on 64bit Fossa.

@dellus :-
.....or, if you fancy trying something different (but along the same lines) there's RawTherapee. I put together a portable for this one, based around a binary I found over at AppImageHub.
I'm not really a photographer, but I did try out several of the functions. Everything appears to work fine.
If you want to take a look, you can find a link here:-

Entirely up to you, of course.
Mike.

Thanks to all you guys for the answers, I did not expect that much resonance!
@Geek3579: I have followed your instructions and - it works!
I had no error displayed on Fossapup64. I'm happy now.
Simple and practical viewers/editors like Faststone (my favourite is Irvanview) only open the jpg image which is contained additionally in the raw file for quick viewing. So the losslessness in raw's is, well, lost.
@greengeek: I have tried rsh's LP2_LightZone_4.0.0-0_i386.sfs with the 32 bit compatibility sfs. As I didn't know whether 32bit or 64 bit Java is needed I tried it both ways. A start screen came up but then an error box appeared offering to close with saving, close without saving or to continue anyway. Choosing continue nothing happened. Details button gave something with file not found and java stuff. Maybe I just used a wrong java.
@mikewalsh: yes I have already tried your RawTherapee portable and it works fine. It's just that Lightzone has some unique ways of processing which appeal to me.
@gychang: yes I know of darktable and have tried it. There is criticism about it to have become too complicated and feature bloated. The newest version 5.0 claims to adress this issues. But it needs recent glibc>3.35 so it doesn't run in fossapup.
Glad I can go on with Lightzone for now, maybe in the future I will switch to something else.
Thanks again - dellus
