No internet on FossaDog

I installed wicd-gtk on FossaDog because I love it. For that, frisbee had to be removed.
Upon a new boot, the internet is not working. wicd cannot connect.
I tried ifup eth0 but the output says, "eth0 not found."
The output of ifconfig -a tells me that I do have eth0.
What do I have to do to enable internet connection without frisbee?

I've discovered that the internet is working after the system is rebooted.
Then wicd-gtk can disconnect, but cannot connect again.
One thing that works for reconnecting is running 'service dhcpcd restart' on the terminal.
But that is bad. I want to use wicd-gtk to connnect and disconnect at leisure.
How come frisbee and peasywifi connect so easily?
(But I don't like them because they offer no way to disconnect. Their GUI is awkward too.)
