6.11.6 64 bit Knl withdrawn

Post by ozsouth »

12Nov24. Withdrawn. Would be ok if fix below used, but also has 'no firmware rolldown' issue.

09Nov24. This kernel has a spectre v2 vulnerability (shouldn't be catastrophic). Sorry, I missed it.
Good reason for using major distro kernels. There is a fix, but I've made adjusted 6.6 & 6.1 kernels now.

Apparently, this vulnerability is very difficult to exploit.

re- fix see: viewtopic.php?p=135369#p135369

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I made a 64bit 6.11.6 2018 KIT High-Frequency Non-Usrmerge Aufs/Overlayfs kernel.
Has many input devices & more drivers set. Runs my new Ideapad Slim 1i well.

NOTE: Unlike earlier kernels, this doesn't seem to support rolling down a few firmware versions, but needs exact
firmware (at least with iwlwifi). Extra firmware is here: https://github.com/endlessm/linux-firmware

Morning and thanks, Grand rounds done here. Run in the following pups, both using the overlayfs and aufs, clean boots, dmesg, idle resource use, and glxgears FPS checked in each:

fossapup64-small version 5. Defaults to aufs with no kernel parameter as it should, punionfs=overlay gives overlay fs. Ubuntu flavour used OOTB.
VoidPup64 current version. Used both flavours OOTB, Void finds AUFS libs ok in either case. lidsuspend continues to work unpatched as it did in 6.11.5. :thumbup2: :thumbup2:
Noblepup64-low. Used usrmerge adjusted Ubuntu flavour. Switched fs using kernel parameter. No issues seen here in either fs.

My pups: LxPupSc64 and Voidpup64 with LXDE ydrv & synaptics touchpad drivers, both using savefiles. Ydrv based NoblePup64 (JWM & LXDE), Bookworm64 & Fossapup64-small (LXDE/PCManFM). No savefiles, no fdrvs there.

spectre-meltdown-checker.sh run in this kernel on my current VoidPup64 install on my 2nd gen i5 (sandylake) hardware. Early loading 241029 microcode. binutils installed and kernel image put in /boot for completeness. All green here.

Thanks,

My pups: LxPupSc64 and Voidpup64 with LXDE ydrv & synaptics touchpad drivers, both using savefiles. Ydrv based NoblePup64 (JWM & LXDE), Bookworm64 & Fossapup64-small (LXDE/PCManFM). No savefiles, no fdrvs there.
