Embed google spreadsheet in phpBB?

@Clarity suggested it. I seconded it as a great idea if possible and have now followed the idea up a little by some quick simple googling research: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... pic/229501

The advantage is the ability to share a spreadsheet with others who, for example, produce a new KL release, or any new forum distro and via the spreadsheet could relatively easily endeavour to keep list and revision info about all releases up to date and with relevant post links.

Useful for any kind of similar expandable flexible sharable authorship table.

Question is whether above post would also apply to this phpBB forum software and what if any drawbacks would it have if so? Arranging suitable google docs for sharing is a different problem but achievable for sure following relevant new distro creator invites.

I have had the phpBB Media Embed PlugIn installed since the first days of this version of the forum. I have updated the plugin extension to it's most recent version.

What we need to do is test it with Google Sheets and see how it works. As far as I can determine the plugin will only display the spread sheets and can not be interactive at this level.

Though with some testing and and experimentation there might be an iFrame solution but this entails some security risks may be created.

I have created a Google Sheets spreadsheet from a template on a Google account and changes to it display on the forum.

This is on the test platform on a localhost XAMPP server, this is what it should look like:

Yes but this could be fine. Spreadsheets could be shared and edited on google docs. We just needthem viewable here and I presume the view will updates as the upstream google doc spreadsheet is updated?

So we now need someone interested to create a suitable Google sheet and send share invites out to the various devs who produce distros and embed the view result in some readily accessible top of relevant forum section place.

No need for its format to be cast in stone of course - as long as it always contains the main info and mechanism to find the distro discussed along with whether active still or not maybe - date of latest release always useful to show how up-to-date the distro still is (and to remind its creators to maybe produce a new one now and then if they have time...).

Yes the document updates will be shown on the forum page as it refreshes!

I can make a spreadsheet on a Google account and share it with any Dev that has a Google presence to give this a try out. Need some basic ideas on how the spreadsheet should be structured though to get started.

Just structure it any way you like to start it off or even share an empty sheet: someone, even me, will likely mess with it later.

Rather than public email post I suggest we PM such info, which I will do (though I think you have my email per registration details. It is hosted at google so gmail drive sharing should work with it).

Sorry @rockedge, I'll have to come back to this later, but will do. Had an accident happen to worker on construction site so been busy dealing with that - will be okay though - angle grinders - scary, dangerous tools...
