Hello everyone!

I am new to the forum but definitely not new to Linux (about 20 years of experience playing with Linux). Last night I tried to use BookwormPup 64 10.0.7 by booting into the ISO (I am using a Qemu VM running on an Arch Linux laptop) and and I am able to boot into the ISO, make some changes such as creating test files, changing time zone, enabling NTP, changing my root password and hostname, and then creating a save folder when rebooting/shutting down the OS. The issue that I am facing is that when I boot back into the ISO, the Save folder does not load and my changes that I had made are not applied at all. I do see the /mnt/vda1 partition is mounted and when I click on it, I can see the save folder within it with the files I created, but none of the changes I made to the system itself, are applied at all. I was under the impression that the save folder would save all of the system changes that I made and that Puppy would load them automatically after reboot/boot up and I would not have to do them all over again. Am I understanding this whole process correctly or am I missing some key vital steps to make the save folder load properly?

As far as I know, booting from the ISO will use the configuration file within the ISO file. The savefile you have can be used with a frugal install

Hello.. Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately when I try the frugal install, using the instructions that I found on the forum, when I reboot the system after installing the boot loader, I get a message that says "waiting to boot from hard drive" and it just hangs there.. I have tried to do the frugal install like about 10 times last night, and it just doesn't work at all.

As for what's being used as the bootloader for the iSO? thats a good question.. I am not 100% too sure what the iSO itself is using as the bootloader.. maybe Syslinux?

Boot from iso is ok, just you need to add boot parameter "psave= " where the location to save session.

All of this forum's distros will boot from ISOs. I provide tests results with QEMU stanza's.

You can find my current results by reviewing the tables found here.

There should be enough info as the tables try to provide overview of known ISO boot methods used by this forum over the past years since 2019.

If there are need for more information, post back here and guidance by some of us will help to get you up to speed.

The methods I use are a mere download and boot approach. NO "traditional" installation is required or needed to take advantage of all the features forum distros offer. You'll only need to provide a location for saving the sessions for all forum distros used (there are several simple instructions over the forum for how to do this). For simple housekeeping, I recommend 1 folder to keep ALL forum distro's save-sessions in that folder. In my case, I have a partition that is named "Persistence" and it has a folder for sessions named "Sessions". Should you boot a KL distro (from the KL area of the forum), it is already setup for this arrangement, thus no concern on your part if you have such for saving sessions. Repeating: This single folder is where ALL of my forum distro sessions are saved.
