meaning of indicator at the lower RH corner of my screen. (solved)

Hello all and woof!

At the lower RHS corner of my screen I see this. (below)

Today, while I downloaded a collection of electronic circuits (TAS+Firefox) to the 'downloads' directory the red graph in the doobie above went 'high' and I heard a noxious buzzing from my PC speaker.
I figure my PC is complaining, but about what? Out of memory? CPU tired from working long hours? Haven't paid my taxes? Nuclear strike impending? Anyone?

Now for the important info: I'm using a desktop, running FossaPup 96-CE. Memory: 8GiB
Operating System:
Distro Name fossapup64 9.6 (x86_64)
