This weeks orphan is a Dell Latitude 3440 laptop from about 2017. Was described on Ebay as: "Dell Latitude 3440 14" Laptop i5-4210U 4GB RAM NO HDD/OS/BAT" and purchased for $17.50 US. Also came with the AC adapter.

Access to the drive bay and ram (upgradable) only requires removing one screw (aw, the good old days).

Added a 128gb SSD and installed BookwormPup64 (everything works) + Windows 11

This is probably one of the last models to include an optical drive, but even with that it is only about 2cm at the thickest point.

The CPU has a Passmark v9 score = 3507, overall a well made model with plenty of power to run Puppy or any other Linux system. Recommended.

Nice! Very similar to the Inspiron 15R Mama bought herself several years ago. That came with some variety of Core i5, 6 GB DDR(3?), a 500GB SATA HDD.....and an optical drive, natch. And preloaded with Win7.......which, due to the machine very rarely seeing any use, got so far behind with its updates that it reached the stage where it was no longer ABLE to update.

No great loss..!

This was the point when I started using it myself, running a USB 'frugal' of Micko's classic Slacko 570 from a 128 GB SanDisk Ultra 'Fit' USB 3.0 'nano' drive. Worked VERY nicely, too.....

Always liked Dells. Around 3 years later, my sister's MSI laptop expired, and we let her have the Dell.....which promptly got Win 10 installed over the top of the sick Win 7. Hey-ho.... All good things come to an end, I suppose.
