@Jamayka24.

Okay, probably you're not running BookwormPup64.

Try again with this etcher-appimage.pet

@Jamayka24

Try manually:

1. Download the appimage here...

https://github.com/balena-io/etcher/rel ... 4.AppImage

2. Save it in /opt

3. Right-click on the file, then choose Permissions and Yes

4. Go to /usr/share/applications

5. Open any .desktop file with text editor like Geany

6. Save as (rename) balena-Etcher.desktop

7. Change the exec= to look like exec=/opt/balenaEtcher-1.19.21-x64.AppImage --no-sandbox

8. Save it and run it

Note: You can extract and copy the balena-etcher.desktop & balena-etcher.png from my pet file
into their respective folders

(First few posts are missing at the top ! ie my original post etc)

Sonny I am way out of my depth here. I ran it in terminal and got :
' running in root without sandbox is not supported.'

Thank you for so much help.

I'm going to see if I can find some other app like Rufus etc with a Linux GUI

The pet package is downloading with this name for it:
balena-etcher_1.19.2...pet

To get the pet package to install.

After you download it, change the name to balena-etcher_1.19.21.pet

Then left click on it to install.

@sonny
You need to change the name of the pet package on the download site, so it is balena-etcher_1.19.21.pet not balena-etcher_1.19.2...pet

After changing the name.
It installed on BookwormPup64 10.0.7 and is running by clicking on the menu entry for it.

To pinpoint this issue, try it on freshly downloaded vanilla BookwormPup64.

I compile stuff with my own version of BookwormPup64 but have each of 'em
tested on vanilla.

Only you who knows what you did last summer to your Pup, @Jamayka24 ;)

Very much appreciated, biggie!

This program is OK if you want to install a Puppy version on a USB drive to try it out.

But it formats the drive in a read only iso9660 format. The complete drive is read only. Most of the drive is unusable for anything.

All you can do is boot with it.

Can not write to it.

So can not have a Puppy save on the USB drive.

It boots and runs the same as booting a Puppy from a CD/DVD install.

From Etcher FAQ:
How can I configure persistent storage?
Some programs, usually oriented at making GNU/Linux live USB drives, include an option to set persistent storage. This is currently not supported by Etcher.

Some people need 'that' purpose + clone feature.

....which is why I stick with UNetbootin, despite that most reckon it's 'old hat' now. It does have that 'persistence' ability.

Heh. Dangerous to automatically ASSUME everybody is always running the very newest Puppy......just because it's what you yourself do. I never run the newest Pups until at least 2 years after release.....but then, that's just me. I neither recommend OR condone similar behaviour in anyone else.....I wouldn't have the cheek to! :o :D

(Of course, my attitude rather goes against the general "grain" of things.....doesn't it? Most folks can't figure me out. Nothing unusual there! :lol:)

Never understood the "hype" and the almost-adulational fuss surrounding this app. It's yet another fancy front-end GUI for dd; nowt more, nowt less. It's not exactly "special".

Still, all credit to you for getting it functional, if this IS what you've managed to do.... :thumbup: Most of these similar sorts of apps usually tend to have trouble "seeing" Puppy, in my experience.

Thank you, Mikey!
Some lights years ago (2000, XP & 7 era), I used your 'combofix' like, a lot!
Always thankful for that.

It is a funny thing you talk about Unetbootin.

The Etcher FAQ, I quoted, talked about using Unetbootin, if you wanted to have an install, with persistence. :roll: :lol:

This program is OK if you want to install a Puppy version on a USB drive to try it out.

There are some Puppy versions that will not work with Etcher, so best not to recommend it unless success has been confirmed. Also,
users will have a difficult time reformatting the ISO9660 back to fat or ext.

Thanks
wizard

@wizard :-

Don't I remember reading somewhere that jamesbond had worked out a method for re-formatting the "unused" portion of just such an ISO9660-formatted drive?

Mike. ;)

Don't think I've seen that, but would be interesting if it can be done.

1. The fossapup64-9.5-med-5.iso will not boot even using Rufus and EasyDD. :thumbdown:
2. EasyOS.img will boot in Rufus, EasyDD and Etcher pet. :thumbup2:
3. Fatdog64-902.iso is OK. :thumbup2:

Maybe my fossapup iso is corrupted. :o
