'Auto-hide' tray setting? [SOLVED]

I usually set my tray to 'auto-hide' when not in use.
From memory this is the setting that I use to achieve this.
For some reason, it always reverts back to 'always visible'
Am I using the wrong desktop application?
I always click on 'apply' with no success.

Used the JWM Desk application (PET) which has this setting
