How to slow down mp3 sound playback?

Post by oui »

Hi

How is remembering:

In the past we did have a "media" (I need now for MP3 etc, sound also; but the same question can be possible for videos if you are looking some video in a language where you are not so fit you can understand fluent the spoken part of all) player where it was possible to modify the speed. I suppose it was based on xine (although xine is essentially a video player; so I can really not remember right if it was for sound files, but I need it actually for sound file in *.mp3 now  )

Can someone help to find a way working in modern version of Linux (best for me would be buster 32 bit as it would probably also run on older hardware...) :?:

With Alsaplayer http://alsaplayer.sourceforge.net/ you can control the speed.
Features

Some of the more interesting features in AlsaPlayer are:
Full speed (pitch) control, positive *and* negative!
Look if it's in Puppy's repos

VLC is also able to decrease and increase the speed.

Also look at mhWaveEdit, a very powerful program for messing with audio files.

thank you very much for all those answers!

in the time between my post and now, I did try in fact mhwaveedit

under the last item in the command bar, I did find effec<t>s and in the options 3thd item from bottom "speed adjustment"

it is very good.

but as I play very slower, the frequencies become very low and the sound dark...

perhaps is some player able to maintain the original level (it were a sound recorder machine able to do that in the past, the recorder from the "dowani" CD' s publisher (trainings CD' s for instrumentists: the orchestra plays without the solist, and the solist can train themself at home to play with the orchestra. MMO (MusicMinusOne) CD's were with 1 tempo, Dowani CD's did offer difficult parts of the music in 3 tempi, but, of course, with the correct sound in all tempi  .

Try a Google search on "mp3 change tempo not pitch"
There seem to be several possible solutions.

VLC is able to change tempo without to change the sound! ;)

If you need this for Audio only try PaulStretch and StretchPlayer!
Should be in the repos.

Tested my VLC (compiled by me in Wheezy)
Slowing down the speed seems to do so without lowering the pitch.
