In windows you can drag and drop items onto the taskbar at the bottom
of the screen - not in Puppy -how do I get them on there --- and remove
ones I dont want ?

Hello @Jamayka24, which Puppy Linux are you using? It is usually a JWM (desktop window manager) configuration setting.

Couldn't find it in there. I'm on Bookworm 10.0.6
Seems to be called ' Tray' in Linux. Toolbar in Win I think.
Taskbar is the one on top.

JWM desk manager, TRAY tab (I think, now with fusilli)

As stated above:-

Menu -> Desktop -> JWMDesk manager

Tab -> 'Tray'. Select from the top list; when you click on the app you want, it will be added to the bottom list. You can order these any way you want by using the up/down arrows to the right-hand side. If you want to remove an app, highlight it, then click on the minus "-" button on the right.

When you're done, click on 'Apply'. This re-starts the JWM window manager, and your selections should then show. Puppy DOES use use drag'n'drop for quite a number of things, but this isn't one of them.....JWM doesn't function in that manner. (The whole thing is actually script-based, hence why radky developed the JWMDesk manager GUI.....to make dealing with it all a lot easier - for Puppy veterans as well as Puppy 'noobs').

It's dead simple once you get the hang of using it.

Not totally sure if this is what you are asking to do.

You want a launch bar on the desktop?
Menu ->JWMDesk ->Options tab ->Accessory Tray
Check launch bar
Set number of items to have in it.
Click on apply.

JWMDesk ->Tray tab
Tray 2 is the one you just made and here you can adjust it.
Tray 1 is the main tray along the bottom of the desktop.

JWMDesk ->Launch tab
Here is where you can select what buttons to have in tray 2 or tray 1.
To make it show what tray to affect.
Click on the tray 1 or 2 button and it will go back to JWMDesk -Tray tab window.
Select the Launch Tab
It should now be showing what tray it will affect, with changes made here.

The icons that are on the right side of the tray 1 are ones that really need to stay there.
They are all quick ways to get into normal operation stuff.
They show if something is working.
Network connection
Speakers
How much free space is available in the save
Quick access to the clipboard
If the firewall is active or not
etc......

The icons on the left are more just stuff you want on the tray as quick access to whatever.

Tray 2 is whatever you want on it.

Example desktop with two trays:
Tray 1 is along the top.
Tray2 is bottom center.

I was in there before and just went back again - All I see are options to change the orientation of the Tray itself,
and the Widgets ie left ,right , up etc.
Dont see any list of apps coming up. I will have to find and take a Screenshot maybe.
I'm not discouraged yet, going to stay with Puppy !

Ok got it. Options tab - Abiword now in the tray !

Whoops! Sorry; my bad.....that should have read Tab -> 'Launch'! End result is you get app launchers added to the left side of the tray, in between the Menu and the desktop workspace pager.....

(It's been a while since I've used that tab. I do most of this manually, since I have scripts for backing-up external copies of ~/.jwmrc and ~/.jwmrc-tray as part of the shut-down/re-boot process. These also get used for doing 'on-the'fly- resets of the tray if, as & when I make the occasional hash of things, so for me these external backup copies are the ones that get edited instead..! )

'Salright. Makes MY head hurt sometimes an' all, too....and I know what I'm doing. Least, I think I do.....

One of the problems with Linux is simply just that the names are different.
toolbar versus tray, app launcher versus shortcut etc. but I'm getting there.

Yes, this was also the most annoying thing to me in the beginning - besides the names of programs. It will get better, of course. I promise!

Yes, learning the names used by Linux of applications whose equivalent you know from Windows has a learning curve. One of the applications I recommend to 'newbies' is AppFinder, Under Bookworm you can install it by typing 'appfinder' in synaptic's search box. It will report 'xfce-appfinder'. As Bookwormpup uses JWM rather than xfce as its Window Manager, you'll also need to install the 'xfce_read-jwm.pet' I provided here, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 513#p21513. That post shows you what it looks like, in particular giving a description of what each application does.

When I use it, I add it to my panel next to the Start button.
