Mozilla Firefox Goes Anti-Privacy, Pro-Advertising

I knew this was coming. No more Firefox updates for me.

After buying advertising company, the browser maker goes all-in on data collection.

I just updated LibreWolf to v128, looks like I should roll back a version and stop updating.

I wonder how this will affect Midori. I'm not clear as to how much of their browser is a direct mozilla clone.

I would like to have more details please ?

The Firefox web browser collects your data as you browse a website.
That data is sent to a Mozilla server.
Mozilla then bundles all the data from multiple users together -- into batches -- and sends those batches of data to the servers of advertisers.

Which data ?
Which servers of advertisers ?

@Governor :

Thanks for the Information.
Don`t get me wrong.

But meanwhile i have come to the Point where i ask my self ......why bothering/being paranoid about who collects my Data or not.
What can i do ?
It happens everyday and everywhere
Maybe i am just too naive.
.....but meanwhile i just give a Fuck about who collects my "Data" or not....just let "Them" eat their own Shit is my Idea.

Garbage in......Garbage out.
But maybe i am just wrong.

Nevertheless........Best Wishes to everyone !

All the good sheeple think like this: "Well, that is just the way it is and there is nothing I can do about it."

Kind of like living in a high crime area and saying: "Well, I will just get broken into anyway, so there is no point in putting a good lock on the door."

"Arguing that you don't care about privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say." ~Ẽdward Snowden

Sure .......there is something on to it......but i am getting tired of being constantly alerted and paranoid.

Sometimes i just wish to live the simple Life of a humble Amish Guy........seems to me ....those Machines won`t save Us......in the long Term.
How to escape the "Machine" the "Matrix" ?.........

I don`t know.

Cause unticking boxes works so well for privacy in windows? And get mysteriously reticked at every update... Oddly at this point I get the feeling they all will do whatever they want whatever box is ticked or unticked. The boxes are more of a placating feel good rather than having any practical effect. And in all reality, there is choice of Chrome or Mozilla. Everything else anymore is based on one of those two. But maybe it will get enough people upset, we will have an actual 3rd choice, one with necessary addons. CAuse anymore any browser NEEDS the addons to lower the ads and tracking to at least a lower noise level. I doubt anything less than NO-SCRIPT meticulously applied controls a whole lot. Least the ad blockers mean I dont have them pushed constantly. Though sure the tracking and data collection brings in more money for the websites. I cant imagine anybody actually clicking on the ads.

That's why I like the Privacy Possum extension; see https://github.com/cowlicks/privacypossum for details. Seeing it in action is quite satisfying - or maybe that's just me
Does some of my real data slip through? Probably, but mixed up with a lot of nonsense to confuse the trackers.

Some websites won't let me proceed unless I disable it. Meh. If I really have to visit them, my other security extensions can keep me as private as I feel the need to be, or I can use one of the many browsers that lock things down further. A lot of the time I don't bother, though; Firefox suits me for everyday purposes.

Either way, it's up to me - and I think that's the main point here, Whether we're happy to shrug off tracking as a necessary evil in today's world, or want to protect ourselves from it at all costs, we should have an informed choice. On which note: thanks for the heads-up, @Governor

I guess you need to do more research on this issue.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/pr ... :mac:fx128

Which data ?
Which servers of advertisers ?

What I got from the article:

The browser itself would collect and send the data as follows:

Websites that show you ads can ask Firefox to remember them and store an “impression,” containing some information about the ad and website
After visiting the landing page and conversion, the website can ask Firefox to generate a report, specifying what ads it is interested in.
Firefox creates a report but does not hand it to the website. Instead, the encrypted report is submitted to an “aggregation service,” where results are combined with many similar reports by the aggregation service.

So Mozilla servers and any web site that wants to store the requested information they ask for.
Whatever this “aggregation service” is?

If I am understanding this.
It seems to be all about you looked at a web site and saw the ads on it. What ads were they.
Did you click on the ad?
If you did and went to the ads web site.

If you visit the destination website and do something that the website considers to be important enough to count (a “conversion”), that website can ask Firefox to generate a report.

It is suppose to be more about what you did with Firefox not who did it.
That seems to be it.
SO THEY SAY!

Case in point. My wife has Windows 10 on her computer, and I have turned off updates every which way from Sunday, and it still updates automatically. I finally managed to stop it with a batch file that runs in the background and kills the update process every 30 seconds and deletes the .etl files in the Windows temp folder.

I have seen several times that settings can change or revert on updates in both Firefox and Brave.

I can watch videos on YT without seeing (or hearing) a single ad, and without autoplay (unless I want it for a playlist). I do not have a YT/Google account. The main reason I stick with FF is because of the great plugins which are available.

I use Privacy Possum as well as several others. If I am unable to access a site that I really want to access, I can try Brave or Palemoon. I have discovered that Cloudflare can also act as a censoring mechanism. People who use it have basically given up sovereignty over their own website, since it is a third party who decides who may view the website and who is turned away.

On the one hand, we are told to take privacy seriously and protect ourselves. On the other hand, users who try to be anonymous are often denied access for fear of hackers,

Many sites espouse privacy concerns and strongly encourage privacy/anonymity, but simultaneously share user data with a third party. I have even seen several sites that point out the evils of Google while simultaneously using Google Tag Manager!

If I must disable security plugins in order to access a site, because they are afraid I am a hacker, then their hacker detection methods are not very savvy. I sometimes get a message telling me that I must disable ad blockers to access a site. I always skip those sites and look for an alternative, or do without.

All the developments that curtail our freedom and privacy are planned and executed. None of it is coincidental or random. I saw all of this back in the 1990s; when JavaScript was introduced, it was a red flag. As Donald Trump says, "Never give up."

We must never take the black pill of hopelessness and despair, but consciously choose to hold the vision for freedom and liberty in our lifetime. Why hold the vision for the evildoers and for our own demise? That is precisely what they want to happen; they want us to give up and accept the fate they have planned for us. It is difficult to hold our vision when things look bleak, but that is what it takes:
Fear not the future, but go boldly forth with your vision and determination. 🔥

Privacy extensions interfere with their data collection, and are therefore not allowed.
