Why AI isn't useful - yet

Post by p310don »

There's a meme going around that goes something like this:

"I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so that I can do my laundry and dishes"

It's related to a situation today working in the hardware store. We're doing some stocktaking, where each part of the shop is segmented off into bins for ease. My offsider commented, why can AI do this, just take a shot of it, and it automatically loads everything into a bin.

It prompted a test. I took the attached photo and loaded it into google photos. Right clicking on the picture and letting google search a zoomed in area of the image, gives me a correct identification of the item. It's pretty amazing.

If only it could be used to do the whole bin in one go. Instead of taking half an hour, it could take literal seconds.

Enough information is good, too much isn't.
I know AI is cool, but not that useful.
CLAUDE ($20/month) has been proven and
tested to be useful to my work.
