This is a link to download XFE ( X File Explorer) and its dependency libFOX:

libFOX was compiled in Easy 6.0 and XFE in Easy 6.0.2.

(See https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic. ... 06#p111906 for a presentation of the previous version)

EDIT (September 15th 2024, new link)

I am interested about this filemanager (XFE) but it is impossible for me download it with your links.

It is my fault or there is any error.

Please let me know or if you upload them to other server, please, share links, PLS

Solved.- It was my error (I cant understand why, but I chose the download folder in another partition and although it was mounted, it was not recognized... I don't know why)

Sorry (I didn't delete the post because it could be useful for another user)

There is a problem with the deletion of files. Impossible to directly delete a file (or a directory)in xfe.

We cand send a file to the trash but it is the "freedesktop standard" trash , not the "puppy standard" trash. (See viewtopic.php?p=112192)

It is impossible to delete only a file from the xfe trash with xfe but we can empty the trash.

Do you guys know that there are Nautilus and Gnome Commander file managers in the repository?

Installable via PKGget.

I compiled them in OpenEmbedded, but have never actually tried them.

PCmanFM and Midnight Commander are now in the "oe-scarthgap" repository in PKGget.
You will need to click on the Configure button and update the package databases.

Thanks Barry.

Only a question related with its use:

I downloaded it, installed it, and, as I told u, I prefer it to rox, so I went to install it as defaul, so I go to Apps, find the program DEFAULT APPLICATIONS CHOOSER to change the file manager to pcmanfm but ... I can't find ROX or other filemanager to be changed.

How can I stablish pcman as the default filemanager for EasyOS ??

Thanks

Hope this programm could be useful for every Easy OS user.

@pp4mnklinux
Not sure if it will break anything.

Thanks, @FeodorF :

As you can see I modifyed the default system manager, using pcmanfm but I didn't see it has worked, because when you gonna add a file to share with whatsapp, with chromium, with ff... it doesn't appears (I will continue testing).

Thanks, because it decides me to modify my default browser- I prefer firefox than chromium, hahhah

Have a nice day.

@pp4mnklinux
Some things need to be changed in the setup of pcmanfm.

Hi Barry,

is there room for one more FM in the selection? SpaceFM is highly configurable and can be set up and run remnisicent of MC, but has a clean gui interface.
Tx

First post. hi all and huge thx Barry and all who've participated producing Easy- brilliant.
Been passing the years with xp pro, Linuxmint. Tried dozens of other linux, always end up back at mint.
Most too tech complicated including function for someone yet to learn linux and commandlines. There is gap between the competent and the not
that neither side can grasp of each other. For me, present easyos file system is like trying to find my left sock in a rubbish tip. I guess i'll learn eventually
and if i could manage it and why Barry chose it would be hesitant to change it.

I trust Barry's choice for system and safety of what Easy is about especially of system function and keeping things simple .
I have Cinnamon desktop set up custom for own tastes. I have a couple of small Zotac mini pc's , fixed 4g ram and 64 g mmc with ext drives attached. Will be moving to something with
more ram sockets. Being newbie a few notches above chicken picking keyboard with tongue out i am comfortable with cinnamon/ xfce , xp type layout except for the system size deficiency.
I live on the road -solar /batteries etc. Not qualified to suggest anything but came across Spacefm a few months ago and wonder if it fits Easy at all.
Best wishes all and thx for leaving instructions for things around the forum.

PCmanFM and Midnight Commander are now in the "oe-scarthgap" repository in PKGget.

Even though Midnight Commander is THE text-based file manager, I much prefer 'nnn', another ncurses file manager. It's a single pane, but with 4 virtual desktops, which I find more natural to navigate. Easy should a;ready have most if not all the dependencies.
