How I got Zoom to work

Post by CF-DKS »

I installed Zoom using the appimage installer on first Scarthgap and then QV (after no success on Scarthgap) and had the same issues with both. Zoom installed but when I tried to log on I got an error indicating that the version I was using was not up to date. I tried the update function which showed the most recent image as installed. Still couldn't log on. I retried updating, this time copying and pasting the correct version into the dialogue and found when I continued it reported my installed version as an earlier version than was indicated on the install. After a couple of false starts, eventually I was able to update to the current version and then to log on. All seems to be working correctly. Not sure why in both cases the most recent version was not initially installed, while indicating that it had been.

The version of Zoom that is initially installed by the AppImage installer is 5.13. which is too old to run. The Appimage update installs version 5.18.1, which currently still runs, but is quite old from January. Surprising it still runs, it probably won't work soon. It appears the Appimage may no longer be maintained. The current Zoom version is 6.0.12.
Which version of Zoom did you get installed? Is it an AppImage?

I installed 5.17.1, which is what was offered as current. Obviously it isn't, but it does work.

OK, thanks. That's what I currently have. Unless a new version is available soon, that version will soon probably be too old.

That works. Thanks! Too bad I didn't know that before, but figuring how to make things work can be entertaining.
