Update kernel k-6.1.0 vs k-6.7.12 newer has smaller size?

Post by trister »

Hello,
What are the differences between kernel k-6.1.0-0.deb11.21-amd64-20691 (k-6.1.0-0.deb11.21-amd64.squashfs) and k-6.7.12-amd64-9518__v240528 (k-6.7.12-amd64.squashfs) ? 6.7 is 60MB smaller.

I know it's a newer kernel but why is it 60MB smaller? Something is missing?
It contains fewer drivers or are the drivers compressed?

Thanks in advance

Compressed, yes. All .ko files are xz compressed now in this latest kernel (6.7 and 6.8).
EDIT: Can see it's smaller (squashfs size) btw, but not as much as 60MB :?:
