Although it may have been based on something generally available I'm pretty sure its a 'Puppy exclusive'. Clicking "About" in the Menu shows Sigmund Berglund as its author; clicking "Credits" those who helped. I've never found anything as accomplished in any 'Major' Distro.
One of Puppy's strengths is that many of its early fans/developers were bash experts.
Transferable to other LinuxOS? Maybe. May depend on what dialect of bash was used.
BookwormPup64 included Synapse which serves as a file-search and application launcher. But it was created for the standard Linux construction --unity of RAM and Storage-- where all a user's data files are located in the User's Home folder on storage. Under Puppys its of little value. It won't read folders on storage even if symlinked into /root.
If you need a User-Friendly Application Launcher, see this thread, viewtopic.php?p=21513&sid=3841f3650d113 ... 188#p21513
