How to tell Puppy I changed the wifi password? (using SNS for network connection)

Hi all

For some reason, I cannot connect to my WiFi connection automatically.

I did change my WiFi password and tried to delete the old profile and use the new one.

I then save when I shut down but the reconnection issue remains.

Can someone let me know where I can locate the configuration file?

I believe the file will be found under /etc/simple_network_setup
But with SNS you should also be able to delete profiles from within the GUI. There is a "Profiles" tab which lists profiles with a number for each one and then you have a small button with a number corresponding to each profile and you just click that small numbered button in order to delete an unwanted profile.

What program is being used to make the network connection?

Each time I restart the profile is here but it fails to connect.

I have deleted it and then reset it, saved rebooted with no success.

My issues began when I added additional characters to my password. The original one did not contain any special characters eg £^.

The encryption used had a default number of characters which I added a few additional ones. From memory I recall it did inform me that it should be 14(?) and I added a few more.

I am using WPA2/WPA3-Personal.

I have removed the additional characters to no avail.

Looking at the text configuration files the PSK values are different/longer in each.

Forgot to add, even though I repeat the process and ask to connect to the default profile, it appears to be working as I am presented with the dialogue box which asks me if I would like to set this as my default connectivity tool. Choosing "Yes" makes no difference and I have to repeat the process over again.

Have tried using an older Save file and booted up without a connection.

Deleted the SNS files, rebooted and went through the steps of setting up an initial connection. Saved the profile once connected successfully.

Rebooted and back to square one, no connection and re-enter login details

Tried swapping kernels and moved up and down encryption settings:

WPA3-Personal
WPA2-WPA3
.....

No difference at all.

FP95 tells me nothing about what exact Puppy version?
I will assume you are saying Fossapup64 9.5?

The SNS that is in most versions of Puppy has changed over the years.
So yes it matters what specific Puppy version!

Maybe get the latest version of SNS. (Fossapup64 9.5 is not going to have it)

Fossapup64 9.5 had some bug fix and updates after it was released.

Personally, I tend to agree with bigpup on this one:-

For me, the best network connection tool for Fossapup64 9.5, was the full version Network Wizard.

.....although I'll go one further and say that I always use Network Wizard, regardless of Puppy - or generation - for the simple reason that it allows me to set static IPs (critical for LAN-connected printing, and for the use of SimplePythonHTTP Server). In the early days, I used SNS myself; most of the time, it works very well and does "exactly what it says on the tin". But it's for that very reason that it doesn't come with all the extra bells'n'whistles.....it's intended for those that just want the easiest possible way to connect, so they can get online, and straight into doing what they want/need to do.

(No good asking me about Connman; ATM, Fossapup64 9.5 is the newest Puppy I use on a regular basis, so I haven't yet got into the newer Woof-CE Puppies.....and the supposed benefits of what dimkr has been doing the last couple of years before 'stepping-down' recently. I've always been a very "late adopter" where tech's concerned; you're looking here at someone who didn't buy their first CD player until the point when everyone else was in the process of moving across to solid-state and mp3 players..!)

As far as I know there has only been one release by 666Philp, am I wrong?

There is only one download version of Fossapup64 9.5 ISO.
That is provided in the Fossapup64 section.

To get any updates or bug fixes found after release.
666philb provides them by using the Quickpet program. (icon on desktop)
Quickpet->Info->Fossapup updates
They get added into the save of the already frugal installed and running Fossapup64.
(if you have a save and update it)

Your image shows a lot of WIFI signals in your area.

If you use 2.4Ghz for the WIFI signal from your WIFI router.
There are only a few channels everyone has to use. (some overlap)
If others are on the same channel you use.
There can be connection issues.

Use this command in a terminal to see all WIFI signals and their info:

Find your WIFI router signal info and compare channel used to others listed.

You can change your WIFI router channel by going into the router setup.
Usually typing into a browser address the router address, which opens to the router settings.

I am very concerned that you are having difficulty with SNS-3.4.

If you use the exact password for the network you are attempting to connect to, SNS should reconnect. I assume you are changing your router's password. If SNS won't reconnect, there must be some unexpected factor.

1. Is your router relatively new and using WPA3 encryption? I wonder if SNS is setting it appropriately. Do the network wizard, frisbee or peasywifi work in this situation?

2. The output of the network scan might reveal something. Enter: 'iw dev wlan0 scan' (w/o 's) and find the section containing "SSID: [your network name]". You can PM that section to me, so I can be sure the code can handle it.
   [edit] I see that the top network in your list shows "RSN-CCMP-P something". That might be significant -- the scan info may be key to this.[edit end]

If all else fails, would you be willing to run a trace of the component that reconnects and share it with me so I might see what is happening during bootup? Note that the trace will reveal the password, so perhaps use a temporary one for the test.

To add the trace, edit '/usr/local/simple_network_setup/rc.snsnetwork' to insert before line 64 (which should be "export TEXTDOMAIN=simple_network_setup"):

Then create the profile or use what you already have for wifi and reboot.

The trace will be in /tmp/bootsysinit.log.

Look there for anything suspicious or attach it to a PM to me, rather than posting to the forum thread (for your privacy).

I hope I can resolve this for you -- and anyone else experiencing this problem.

Thank you for your input and suggestions.

Apologies for my late response .......... had to make the most of the sunny weather and do some spring cleaning chores

I do have a number of devices that I use ie 2x desktops 2x laptops.

Which have Jammypup and Fossapup95 running.

All of which run from USB flash drives.

The router's password has not been changed ...... unsure as why you suggested this.

Thanks for getting back to me. I assumed you are working with the password on your router for your PCs to talk to. That is all I have changed about wifi network passwords.
