How to use Droidcam in Fossapup?
I would like to use the app "Droidcam" under Puppy (current version: fossapup649.5frugal).
It works on Windows. I have installation errors on Linux.

Re: How to use Droidcam in Fossapup?
here's some instructions for droidcam....
1. install the 'devx' from quickpet>>useful
2. install the 'kernel src' from quickpet>>useful
3. then follow the droidcam install instructions
Code: Select all
wget https://files.dev47apps.net/linux/droidcam_latest.zip
unzip droidcam_latest.zip -d droidcam && cd droidcam
./install
5. use menu>>>multimedia>>>guvcview to view the camera output
or if you are feeling lazy here's a .pet with a menu entry

Hi @666philb or anyone: Any ideas for having the system show the local USB camera's video.
Droidcam is only built for cameras that are NOT attached to the PC.

Re: How to use Droidcam in Fossapup?
You can try using xawtv(viewer for TV tuners and cams) - PPM has it. Something like this:
Code: Select all
xawtv -c /dev/video0
With Nvidia card:
Code: Select all
xawtv -nodga -c /dev/video0
Fossapup has Guvcview. In general, VLC and mpv(and everything based on it) should be able to do this.
Fossapup OS, Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, 64 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB, Sound Blaster Audigy Rx with amplifier + Yamaha speakers for loud sound, USB Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro V3 + headphones for quiet sound.

Thanks. Never knew Guvcview was built-in. It probably should be in the Menu under Multimedia, making it easy to find and use, since a growing number of us have and are using these local units for various needs.
Others may find this of interest: I've found 2 videos which give some useful ideas to use the USB webcam
Thanks for your directions!

Re: How to use Droidcam in Fossapup?
I tried xawtv on not one but 2 USBs to see if I could get either to show the camera's view. 'xawtv', after reading seems to have promise beyond just the webcams.
PPM installs fine. Yet in use???
Here's what is happening in the terminal...but NO video window emerges. 'video0 &video1' are from camera #1 while 'video2&3' got added when the 2nd camera was plugged in. Neither offered a window feed.

If Guvcview works, then forget about this xawtv

Re: How to use Droidcam in Fossapup?
In my opinion, the most interesting combination of camera and computer is Stop Motion Animations. Many Soviet-Russian cartoons were made in this manner. Of course, "Wallace and Gromit" comes to mind from British animations.
A children's club(more likely a studio) was recently opened in my town, and there children sculpt various figures(people, animals, furniture and so on) from plasticine, and then create stop motion animations. Programs are used: Linux Stopmotion and qStopMotion, as well as Entangle and something else.
I'm trying to persuade a studio manager I know to switch to Puppy Linux
Five minutes of madness :
