After several unsuccessful attempts, I still managed to compile, that’s why I hate Python because it’s a crapshoot.
Of course, we have a script for installing wallpaper, but the graphic one will be better.

Dependencies become themselves
Install a preferred backend from your package manager: swww
used with "swww" - Subfolders
To restore your wallpaper at launch, add waypaper --restore " /home/spot/Startup " to your startup config.
but it’s better to write line 20 in /home/spot/.config/hypr/configs/exec.conf

add to /home/spot/.config/hypr/configs/window_rules.conf , so that the window opens small and on top of all windows

Enjoy !!! Best regards, Sofia

To make it easier for @Clarity to test it out I have assembled a boot-able ISO of KLV-Hyprland-CE-4.1

KLV-Hyprland-CE-4.1.iso
SHA1-MD5.txt

Let us know if it works! :ugeek: :thumbup2:

I just unpacked this one and noticed it doesn't have a w_init like the rest of the KL's. Is that because it's designed for isobooting and not normal frugal?

@geo_c We could put it in. Is it being used in this distro? Most of the time not needed in a setup unless overriding the init in the initrd.gz with modified code without actually modifying the initrd.gz physically.

I can repackage the ISO and include it for the adventurous :thumbup2:

Well I don't know if it's being used, I guess I'll just have to boot it and see if works without it. Probably you are right, it's not being used. But I really don't know anything about the init setup. I was just checking as it's the first time I noticed a w_init not included.

and now I see you attached one for me. But do I need it?

I've only used it to test some modifications to the init before adding them to the rootfs. I don't think KLV-Hyprland-CE uses it in this case.

It's main function is to have priority over the init if modified and used, making it very easy to test modifications to the boot stages. Doesn't hurt anything to add it back into the system root.

I'm going to forego the w_init, as your comment suggests it might be an adventure.

But I'm going to do some Hyperland booting now, and I have 2 installs not yet booted. One is Hyperland 3.8 with a 6.1.38 RT kernel, and the other is this 4.1 with what looks like a conventional void kernel.

I will report back.

I'm back: The Hyprland 3.8 with the realtime kernel crashed, and I think that's my fault for mixing up versions.

I'm typing now from 4.1. It's very nice @Sofiya! Running fast and smooth.

@geo_c KLV-Hyprland-CE-4.1 is using a VanillaDpup kernel. I have the version running kernel 6.1.38-rt13 going okay as well.

Though KLV-Hyprland-CE's will only boot to a desktop on one of my desktop machines, that being a DELL Optiplex 990

It is better to use the latest version "KLV-Hyprland-CE-4.1 stable (v.Hyprland-0.35.0_1)". They have added many fixes and improvements to Hyprland-0.35.0_1. But if you need a real-time kernel, just replace the existing one

Hello @rockedge
On bare-metal via boot launchers launching the v4.1 ISO file

  • It does NOT boot directly from Ventoy v1.0.97 in either of its modes (normal or GRUB2). Using GRUB mode, it traps while uisng Normal mode, it stops at a GRUB prompt. (I suspect PC platform issues).

  • It DOES boot to desktop via SG2D with NO issues. It operates without hiccups, rapidly.

I will test again, later on another of the test PCs and report bootings. As well,too, I will test in KVM VMs.

This ISO file, version v4.1, booted via Ventoy to desktop same as SG2D.
Same Ventoy steps for all KLs

  • Boot Ventoy

  • Select KLV ISO file

  • Took Ventoy's GRUB offering

  • Did nothing at KLV until desktop arrival (the default Menu is "RAM0 ...")

Thanks @Sofiya

I will stick with the working 4.1 with the vanilladpup kernel. However, I'm probably going to need a tutorial on how to run a multi-user system as it's still rather awkward for me to get things working, like portables and appimages. I haven't even begun to work with linking files into the system from the root of the home drive.

For instance, I ran pcmanfm with MOD+shift+F and copied my desktop files that start portables and appimages into /usr/share/applicatons, but out of the 5 or 6 I copied in, the only one that showed up in the dmenu was palemoon portable, and when I ran it, I got a message that said there was already an instance of it running, which I could not find in the task manager or htop. The other desktop files simply didn't appear in the menu.

My LibreWolf desktop file is below, it shows up in /usr/share/applications with the appropriate icon. I tried changing the exec line to /mnt/sda1/ but that didn't change anything. I still doesn't show up in the menu. Maybe there are some other parameters that need to be there.

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=LibreWolf
Icon=/mnt/home/tcons/unichrome/console/librewolf.png
Comment=LibreWolf Browser
Exec=/mnt/home/portableAPP/LibreWolf-img/LibreWolf.x86_64.AppImage
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Categories=X-Desktop;Internet;Network;WebBrowser;
GenericName=librewolf

So I'm trying to figure out how it works to run as a user spot, and access files from within file browsers of various applicatons on /mnt/sda1 or /mnt/home, as well as symlinking files into the user/spot.

Everything appears in the menu as expected
set the path not to the "home" link but to "/mnt/sda2" .Although I guess it doesn't matter

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Type=Application
Name=IPTVnator
Comment=IPTVnator
Exec=/mnt/sda2/AppImage/IPTVnator/IPTVnator-0.15.0.AppImage --no-sandbox
Icon=/mnt/sda2/AppImage/IPTVnator/iptvnator.png
Categories=X-Multimedia
GenericName=IPTVnator
Terminal=false

I am going to remove my ISO for this. I put it together in minutes and it's not booting in all the required scenerios so it's going to be removed.

@Sofiya 's ISO works better and I am using it with some good results!

@geo_c I'm in the same boat........fumbling around a bit getting used to using sudo which isn't working 100% to allow me to install Thunderbird mail client in /opt

LibreWolf is a fork of the Firefox browser.
Having tested (LibreWolf), the Wofi really does not see this name, but Rofi does
The only option is to run it from Pcmanfm > Applications > Internet

Hi @Sofiya that desktop is beautiful with great components.

Is there any chance that your next build will open that as the OOTB starting desktop for this Hyprland ISOs?

I feel it will jumpstart user use, navigations and acceptance. Thoughts?

BTW: The polish this has taken on could become a Leading Puppy Linux Forum offering that progresses to be an "Official" distro from this KL family in the same way FATDOG and EASY being official from this forum having landed on Distrowatch. It has all the modern features todays LInux distros are racing to.

GTK4 is the last remaining element for this in your future progress.

Amazing, thus far.

Interesting about all this. Airedale has pipewire/wayland/gtk4 installed, only being a Void distro, I don't think there is a wayland compatible traditional cascading window manager available in the repos, I could be wrong about that.

Hyprland, being that it's a tiling window manager is a bit of a niche desktop, and might not be a good entry point for those not already familiar with tiling desktops.

In terms of functionality, ease of use, I think Airedale should be out there for public consumption at this point. And when a wayland compositor desktop that isn't quite as dependent on keystrokes and bindings becomes a reality, then add that to the lineup of KL's that get a public face. Just my two cents.

It might be that Void is just enough behind the curve of cutting edge that it's a good candidate for development, so that what does emerge is stable.

Otherwise it might be that a Kennel Linux Arch would be the way to go for getting all the bleeding edge stuff operational.
