first boot & copy file to / then save; file not saved

I just noticed that if I boot a frugal (aufs or overlayfs), then copy a file to / , then save, when I reboot the file isn't there. A file in a folder is fine. If I make a savefile/folder immediately & reboot, then put a file in / & reboot, it is saved. Tried 2 s1564 pup versions & different bootloaders. Also tried Bookwormpup64 & ScPup64-20.06 & different pcs. I'd never noticed this before. Seems a trap for the unwary.

Couldn't resist.

years back I had similar problems with desktop settings and creating new icons on the desktop at firstboot
I just made a habit of creating the savefolder and rebooting before actually expecting the savefolder to save anything correctly

@wizard - Definitely! It's newbies I worry about.
@williwaw - I usually do that too, but I'm testing my new overlay pup fully b4 release & this happened.
LATER: I added a warning upon pupmode 5 logout-gui call:
