How to prevent screen from blacking out after a few minutes? (SOLVED)

HP Pavillion g7 Notebook PC
Bios Version F.05
Processor Type: AMD A6-4400M 2700MHz
RAM 4GB

Slacko 7.0 64 bit

Monitor goes black if left inactive for several minutes, then won't wake up, requiring hard shutdown and reboot.

Already have set screensaver interval to 9999 seconds (maximum) but would prefer infinity (never) going black. Not sure how to make that happen.

The laptop exhibits the same symptoms when the lid is closed, won't wake up and screen remains black

I have looked in /etc/acpi/actions/suspend.sh but not sure what I am seeing

Any help is appreciated

Edit: SOLVED. I installed a .pet of Pup Control which allowed me to disable the screen saver (I left the laptop open all night as a test, and the desktop stayed lit up all night as desired). I have no need or desire to ever have the screen saver activated.

This also solved the other issue, which apparently was not an issue at all but rather was a symptom of the screen saver problem. The laptop can now be closed and it goes to sleep as desired, and wakes up when the lid is opened with no other inputs required.

Edit #2: It appears that I spoke too soon, the laptop still goes blank after closing the lid and re-opening. I will start a new thread on that issue.
Thanks to all who responded

Les, try setting the screen control to zero, not 9999. The laptop may be a different problem, requiring a separate topic.

Stopping blanking can be done via xset command:

xset s 0 0 dpms 0 0 0

OR

Could install the .pet below. After download, click on it in ROX-Filer (filemanager) & then restart X
It would then activate each time you start puppy.
