Re: Installation using USB
I've used grub4dos with WinXP quite a bit. It's how my old netbook, Acer Aspire One, boots multiple Puppies as well as XP.

Re: Installation using USB
According to this post, https://en.freedownloadmanager.org/Wind ... -FREE.html, Rufus should run under Windows XP. You may need to use a version earlier than the latest. Per that post, "The most popular versions of the program are 3.9, 3.6 and 3.5." They can be found on Github and Fosshub by following the links named 'Other versions' on Rufus' Website, https://rufus.ie/en/
The recipe for PROPERLY using Rufus are given here, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 522#p40522. Note in particular the need to have Rufus create a persistence partition..
I don't know when Rufus added the ability to create a persistence partition. So you may have to try several versions, working backward from the most recent. Note that versions 3.18 and before 3.2 should not be used.
Most USB-Installers create READ-ONLY installation media. These will permit Puppy to boot but not Save anything back to the USB-Key. A work-around is provided here, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 85#p102085
