Slacko v7.0 wifi issue

Hi
I used Slacko v7.0 and wifi with ADSL box. All were fine.
Now, I have a fiber box and I am not able to do anything.
Do i change wifi card firmware? I think not but ...
I try WAP and WAP2.
Which command lines can help me to understand the situation?
thanks

Now, I have a fiber box and I am not able to do anything.

So you changed to a different Internet provider service and are trying to use it's WIFI modem?

It is setup to use some type of WPA encryption, with a password you setup for it to use, to connect to a WIFI router?

Or did the service provider give you a password to use?

Use this to make a connection.

It is a lot of steps and you need to follow it correctly to get it working.

But if something is not working.
The specific step it happens, is a big clue to giving you a fix.

Just slowly do it step by step.

It is not hard as long as you do it step by step.

menu->Setup->Internet Connection Wizard->Wired or wireless LAN->Network Wizard

Network Wizard wireless connection steps.

  1. Select Network Wizard
  2. Select wlan0 (your network card may have a different description)
  3. Select Wireless in the Configure wireless network box.
  4. Select Scan and your ESSID (WIFI router) should come up.
  5. Select your ESSID and OK
  6. Give a name to your profile. It should already be what you selected in step 5.
  7. Encryption. Most people use WPA/TKIP - select it or WPA2.
  8. A box will open for you to write the WPA password. It is called a Shared Key. Enter the password.
  9. Leave the other boxes as they are. Rarely do these need adjustment.
  10. Select Save
  11. Select Use This Profile
  12. A box will appear showing Puppy trying to connect
  13. A box will come up “REPORT ON TEST 0f wlan0CONNECTION”
  14. Select Auto DHCP in the Configure interface box and it will go through a handshake routine. and declare itself successful
  15. Select done

Select to use this setup on reboot.
Select to use this as default.

If something does not work.
What step?
You do what?
You see what?

Also make sure your system's time zone setting is correct - if not, many website's certificates then act as if they are expired, and the webpage won't display.

@jean202

Try adding this to the kernel command line in the boot stanza! net.ifnames=0. This will name the network devices like eth0,eth1..... or wlan0, wlan1.....
Here is an example:

Code: Select all

title F96-CE_4 (uuid)
  find --set-root uuid () 8a8ea99d-a1b0-4c43-b1a0-d4ce5c9c7dfa
  kernel /F96-CE_4/vmlinuz psubdir=F96-CE_4 pmedia=atahd net.ifnames=0
  initrd /F96-CE_4/initrd.gz

step 12 gives an error

If you got to step 12 in the Network Wizard and it did not do what it should do.

This is usually the wrong encryption setup selected or the wrong password was used.

Do you know exactly what encryption setup is being used by the service providers modem?

That is what needs to be selected.

When you enter the password.
It must be in correct lower and or uppercase letters.

If you are selecting the correct encryption and entering the correct password, it should be working.

When you do the scan for WIFI signals.
From the list of what is found in your area.
You are sure you select to use the one provided by your service modem?

What does this command show?

Code: Select all

rfkill list

You can copy from the terminal by highlighting what you want to copy.

Paste it by pressing the middle mouse button.

If I understand correctly, with your old ISP's device you were able to connect for LAN service as well as setup Wifi directly via the ISP's device.

Now you have a fiber-based ISP. It seems they gave you a fiber modem...not a fiber router (these are VERY different devices). Have you spoken with your new ISP for guidance in using their provided service and equipment?

Curious
