I am putting a "thumbtack" in this for later.
How does it compare to Kicad and ExpressPCB?
Kicad is a free full up electronics design package.
It can be used to create netlists for gnuspice so even the design phase is covered and not just the capture of the design.
For the serious enterprise level stuff this is a good tool
Its storage format is documented.
ExpressPCB (I don't work for them) works under wine (at least the classic one does)
It is a limited package that only lets you get PCBs from ExpressPCB (US only I think)
It has the advantage of getting you prototype boards very fast and at a reasonable cost.
Its storage format is encrypted.
There is, of course, the old original.....LTSpice, now up to version XVII (from the version IV I've been playing around with for a long while.) And it STILL runs perfectly under WINE, in my case version2013's 3.3_v2.1; old, yes.....but perfectly serviceable. This March 22nd 2021 update runs without a hitch.
