Post by babinio74 »

Hello!

I need help installing Wi-Fi drivers for Broadcom BCM43142 chip

I haven't found anything using the PPM by using a wired internet connection

is there any .pet package that will help me build the driver? Or should i do it manually and how? (

thank you inadvance!

Reason: added specific Puppy version to the topic subject so we know what the driver is for.

Hi babinio74,

PPM is limited and out of date, unfortunately. However, I use BCM43142 as well, with the Broadcom STA driver.

Which Puppy are you using (including the version number)?
If you go to Menu > Setup, can you see another Package Manager listed?

My own example: I'm using Vanilla Dpup 10.0.34 at the moment, which uses Synaptic Package Manager. When I search for BCM43142 I can see 3 packages listed.

The one that worked for me is broadcom-sta-common. In the package notes, it says 'This package contains the common files and it should not be installed manually (it will be installed automatically as needed).' You can ignore that, though; it's not automatically installed on Puppy so you can safely go ahead and install it.

Looking forward to finding out how you get on. :)

You need the devx and kernel sources usually. After that you can locate broadcom releasing the source code for the driver, and you can build that. Alternatively there may be pets available on the forum.

EDIT: Try quickpet updates. It may pull in the driver.

Ah ... in that case, have a look at viewtopic.php?p=10900#p10900

I haven't used Bionic for a while but seem to recall having success with the WL driver. You might be able to find that in PPM, but if not, try one of the archives linked on that page.
As Phoenix says, it's worth searching the forum as well. Issues with Broadcom drivers have been discussed several times over the years, so you might find a solution from way back.

Good luck!

You would need to change the kernel to match the .pet provided by @ozsouth .......... not sure where to find 5.10.189

My newer 32bit Drivers:
k5.10.189 here:

Builder of LxPups, SPups, UPup32s, VoidPups; LXDE, LXQt, Xfce addons; Chromium, Firefox etc. sfs; & Kernels
